Easy Chicken Marinade

We are always grilling outside this time of year. We made this Orange Sriracha Griled Chicken over the weekend and fell in love with it. It has tons of great flavors – orange juice, Sriracha, dijon mustard, honey, and BBQ sauce. It is a little sweet, a little smokey and a tad bit spicy. We let the chicken hang out all day in the marinade so it could soak up the great flavors. Leftovers are great on top of a salad or in a sandwich wraip. Make it this weekend, I promise you will love it too!

How to Make Orange Sriracha Grilled Chicken

This marinade is effortless to make. Simply whisk together BBQ sauce, Sriracha, orange juice, honey, and dijon mustard. Pour the marinade over chicken and refrigerate a few hours to overnight. When ready to cook the chicken, remove the chicken from the marinade and grill until it reaches an internal temperature of 165º.

  • You can use this marinade on any cut of chicken – breasts, tenders, thighs, wings, or drumsticks/legs.
  • You can use boneless or bone-in chicken. Adjust the cooking time to ensure an internal temperature of 165ºF.
  • Is Orange Sriracha Chicken spicy? Even though this chicken has a ¼ cup of Sriracha, we didn’t think it was spicy. I might actually increase the Sriracha next time, but I like spicy food.
  • My favorite store-bought BBQ sauces are Sweet Baby Rays, Stubbs, G.Hughes, and Williamson Brothers.
  • I suggest pounding the chicken breast to an even thickness. We put the chicken in a ziplock bag and use a flat meat mallet to carefully pound out the hump. This ensures that the chicken cooks evenly and you don’t have juicy chicken and half-dry chicken.
  • You will want to marinate the chicken for at least an hour. We almost always let our chicken marinate overnight. I mix up the marinade before bed and let it hang out in the refrigerator until we are ready to grill.
  • I don’t have a grill. Can I cook the chicken in the oven or skillet? Yes! To cook the chicken breasts inside, pan-sear it for 3 to 4 minutes per side. Place on a rimmed baking sheet. Bake at 400ºF for 10 minutes.

What to Serve with Grilled Chicken

This grilled chicken has quickly become a favorite at our house. We usually double the recipe and eat the leftovers during the week. As I said, it is great on a salad or in a sandwich wrap or tacos. We like to serve this chicken with some asparagus and rice. Here are a few of our favorite side dish recipes from the blog that go great with this yummy chicken:

  1. I don't have pineapple or oj at the moment. What would an alternative liquid be that would work?

  2. Think I'll try this with pineapple juice instead of orange & grill pineapple rings on the side.
