How to Make Sausage Biscuit Breakfast Casserole
This casserole is super easy to make. Start with some leftover biscuits. Chop them up and place them in a baking dish. Top the biscuits with cooked sausage and cheese. Whisk together milk and eggs. Pour the egg mixture over the biscuit mixture and bake. Easy Peasy!
- I used frozen Pillsbury Grands! Biscuits. I baked them ahead of time and chopped them up when I was ready to make the casserole. I have not tried this casserole with baked refrigerated biscuits. The frozen buttermilk biscuits are nice and firm and hold up well in this casserole. The biscuits are best if you can make them a day or two in advance. Leftover biscuits work great! I’ve seen trays of prebaked Pillsbury biscuits at Sam’s Club – they would be perfect for this casserole.
- I used a roll of Jimmy Dean sausage for this casserole. You can substitute turkey sausage for the pork sausage in this recipe if you want to reduce the calories.
- You can use any cheese that you prefer in place of the cheddar.
- Can Breakfast Casserole be made in advance? Yes! You can assemble the casserole and refrigerate it overnight. You may need to add a few minutes to the cooking time if baking straight from the refrigerator.
- Can You Freeze Sausage Biscuit Breakfast Casserole? Yes! You can assemble the casserole and freeze for later. You can freeze the casserole baked or unbaked.
- To bake the casserole after freezing, thaw completely overnight in the refrigerator and bake as directed below.
- To reheat the casserole after freezing, thaw completely overnight in the refrigerator. Cover with foil and bake at 350ºF for 30 to 40 minutes.
