This Sausage & Cream Cheese Stuffed French Toast is inspired by our visit to the Sunny Point Cafe in Asheville, NC. I had this for brunch and fell in love with it! I knew I had to recreate it at home. Well, I finally got around to making it and it was even better than I remember. Sweet and savory in every bite. It is especially delicious smothered in maple syrup.
How to Make Sausage & Cream Cheese Stuffed French Toast
This french toast is very easy to make. Start with cooking some breakfast sausage. Combine the sausage with some cream cheese. Spread the cream cheese between two pieces of bread. Whisk together eggs, milk, maple syrup, vanilla, and salt. Dip the sandwiches in the egg mixture. Cook in the skillet until golden brown. Serve with maple syrup.
- I used Pepperidge Farm Farmhouse Hearty White Bread.
- You can use any bread that you enjoy. You may get more or less french toast depending on the size of the bread you use.
- I used Jimmy Dean breakfast sausage. Feel free to substitute turkey sausage.
- You can use low-fat or fat-free cream cheese.
- You can make the sausage and cream cheese mixture ahead of time and assemble the french toast when you are ready to eat.
What to Serve with Savory French Toast
I’m not a big sweets person, so this french toast breakfast sandwich is right up my alley. We serve the french toast with maple syrup and fruit. It is also great with some cheese grits and hash brown potatoes. YUM! We love this for breakfast, brunch, lunch, and dinner. Give this a try the next time you’re in the mood for an extra-special but extra-easy breakfast.

This is a really easy and delicious meal. Very heavy and rich for us, but everyone enjoyed it. I have an 11,8,6, and 2 year old, they all approved- a feat! I really wasn’t sure if I’d like the sausage cream cheese maple combo but somehow it just works!
The recipe states 3 Tablespoons of butter, divided. Divided where?
to use as you cook the french toast in batches
It looks like those are divided for each batch or serving you make. So you have the butter ready-portioned to melt for each serving in the pan.
