Crock Pot Hot Dogs in BBQ Sauce

Hot dogs are a must for summer parties and cookouts. We love to grill hot dogs, but last week I threw them in the crock pot with an easy homemade BBQ sauce. OMG! SO good! This is the easiest way to make hot dogs and everyone LOVED them! Only a few minutes of prep time and they were ready to eat in a couple of hours. Perfect for potlucks, tailgating, and birthday parties.

How to Cook Hot Dogs in the Crock Pot

This recipe is effortless to make with only a few simple ingredients. In a small bowl, whisk together ketchup, BBQ sauce, Worcestershire sauce, onion powder, brown sugar, and vinegar. Season with salt and black pepper. Place the hot dogs in the crockpot. Pour the sauce over them and cover. Cook on LOW for 3-4 hours and serve. Make sure to use up all the sauce in the bottom of the slow cooker – SO GOOD!

Helpful Tips & Frequently Asked Questions

  • I like to make small cuts on two sides of my hot dogs before cooking. This allows more of the sauce to season the hot dogs as they cook.
  • You can whisk together the sauce in advance and refrigerate it until you are ready to cook the hot dogs.
  • I use Sweet Baby Ray’s BBQ sauce in the sauce mixture. I also like Stubb’s BBQ sauce.
  • Consider adding some hot dog chili on top of your dogs.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for 3-4 days.

  1. I have fixed these several times and we love them! Could the hot dogs be marinated in this sauce, then cooked on the stove? Can leftovers be frozen?
