Slow Cooker Hot Dogs in BBQ Sauce

Hot dogs are a must for summer parties and cookouts. We love to grill hot dogs, but last week I thew them in the crockpot with an easy homemade BBQ sauce. OMG! SO good! They were super easy to make and everyone LOVED them! I especially loved how easy they were to make. Only a few minutes of prep time and they were ready to eat in a couple of hours.

How to Cook Hot Dogs in the Slow Cooker

I like to make small cuts on two sides of my hot dogs before cooking. This allows more of the sauce to season the hot dogs as they cook. When you are ready to make the hot dogs, mix together the BBQ sauce. Whisk together ketchup, BBQ sauce, Worcestershire sauce, onion powder, brown sugar and vinegar. Place the cut hot dogs in the crockpot. Pour the sauce over them and cover. Cook on LOW for a couple of hours and serve. Make sure to use up all the sauce in the bottom of the slow cooker – SO GOOD!

You can whisk together the sauce in advance and refrigerate it until you are ready to cook the hot dogs. I used Sweet Baby Ray’s BBQ sauce in the sauce mixture. I also like Stubb’s BBQ sauce.

What to Serve with Hot Dogs

We both really enjoyed these hot dogs. So much so that they are back on the menu again next week. They are really delicious. You definitely want to make these the next time you want a hot dog. They are SO much better than plain hot dogs.

We served the hot dogs with extra sauce, coleslaw, and baked beans. I’m getting hungry just thinking about this meal! Here are a few of our favorite recipes from the blog that go great with these Slow Cooker BBQ Hot Dogs:

  1. I have fixed these several times and we love them! Could the hot dogs be marinated in this sauce, then cooked on the stove? Can leftovers be frozen?
