I also would like to know if you could use regular potatoes instead of frozen hash browns… If so do I boil the potatoes first, or add them in uncooked.
I’ve only made this as written. Any changes and substitutions to the recipe would be up to you.
Can I use Gold or Russet potatoes and dice them? If so do I boil the potatoes first, or add them in uncooked.
Stephanie,
this sounds like a great recipe – for dinner or for a brunch with friends. I love your blog and find more recipes on yours than anyone else’s I read. Thanks so much for bringing us new recipes to use and brighten our lives!
Could you substitute 1 cup (8 oz.) heavy whipping cream or half and half for the sour cream?
You can try it. I’ve only made this as written, so I can not say how it would turn out.
In your recipe for shredded Cracked Out Potatoes, you include a package of ranch seasoning. Would that work in the crock pot as well? I've tried the shredded ones, and they're delicious! I just need something for the slow cooker this time. (Apologies if this is a duplicate post.)
I think it would work perfectly. Enjoy!!
Could you freeze this recipe?
I think that would be fine! Enjoy!
Okay, I think I really need a slow cooker now! This looks so good!
A few years ago I came across the most delicious cheesy potatoes I had ever eaten. I asked for the recipe and it was the same as I had always made (and the recipe you provide above), except french onion dip was substituted for the sour cream. The flavor was out of this world! I will definitely be trying my next batch this way, in the slow cooker, and can't wait to see how the addition of the bacon lends to the already delicious flavor. Thanks!
I love using French Onion Dip in casseroles! I am making the French Onion potato casserole this weekend. It is so yummy. I bet it wold work great in this recipe too.
