I know Halloween is tomorrow, but I am already thinking about Thanksgiving recipes. This Slow Cooker Green Bean Casserole is definitely going to be on our menu. OMG! SO good! The best part about this recipe is that there is NO cream of anything soup! What?!?!? I know! Crazy!
The creaminess in this Slow Cooker Green Casserole comes from alfredo sauce. It makes the green beans so creamy and soooooo delicious! There is also a can of water chestnuts in the mixture. It gives the casserole a nice crunch.
Slow Cooker Green Bean Casserole
This casserole is super easy to make. Simply mix together fresh green beans, Alfredo sauce, water chestnuts, mushrooms, pepper, and French fried onions. Pour the mixture into the crockpot and cook. Sprinkle with additional fried onions before serving.
- You can mix up the green bean mixture the night before and just dump it in the slow cooker on Thanksgiving or Christmas day. SO easy! I love that I can fix this side dish and forget it.
- If you aren’t a fan of mushrooms, you can leave them out. The casserole will taste just as good without them.
- My favorite jarred Alfredo sauces are Trader Joe’s, Rao’s, or Bertoli. You can use any flavor that you enjoy best.

Can you recommend a substitute for the fried onions? Bread crumbs perhaps? Would I wait to add a substitute ingredient like this you think?
You can leave them out if you don’t like them.
Can you use canned green beans and how many??? Oddly our family doesn’t like the taste of fresh or frozen green beans.
Could you slice fresh mushrooms to use for this dish instead of jarred?
I'm sure that would be fine. You may want to saute the mushrooms first. They tend to get watery when cooked.
Hi. This looks great for Thanksgiving. I have never used store-bought Alfredo sauce before. Which brand do you recommend?
Thanks!
I used Buitoni refrigeratored Alfredo sauce. It is with the fresh pasta and fresh Parmesan at my grocery store
Thanks!
Definitely going to try this before Thanksgiving! I didn't like the original green bean casserole I thought it was kind of bland, but this actually seems great! Can't wait to try!
