This Mississippi Sin Potato Soup has been on repeat at our house. Creamy ham soup loaded with ham, cheese, Worcestershire sauce, hot sauce, and green onions. The flavors are inspired by our favorite tailgate dip. This is a great way to use up any of that leftover holiday ham. I always buy a giant ham so we can use the leftovers for recipes like this. Comfort food at its best! Perfect for chilly winter days and nights.

How to Make Slow Cooker Mississippi Sin Potato Soup

This soup is effortless to make with only a few simple ingredients. Simply place hash browns, chicken broth, ham, Worcestershire sauce, hot sauce, onion powder, garlic powder, and cream cheese in a 6-qt crockpot. Cover and cook on LOW for 8 hours. Stir in cheddar cheese and sour cream. Garnish the soup with green onions.

  • There is no need to thaw the hash browns before adding them to the crockpot.
  • I recommend using no-salt added or low-sodium broth if using store-bought broth.

Ingredients:

  • 1 (32-oz) frozen shredded hash browns
  • 4 cups chicken broth
  • lb chopped cooked ham
  • 2 Tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • Tbsp hot sauce
  • tsp onion powder
  • ½ tsp garlic powder
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 (8-oz) package cream cheese
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 (8-oz) container sour cream
  • 2 green onions, chopped

Instructions:

  • Place hash browns in a 6-qt slow cooker. Add broth, ham, Worcestershire, hot sauce, onion powder, garlic powder, salt, pepper, and cream cheese.
  • Cover and cook on LOW for 8 hours.
  • Stir in cheddar cheese and sour cream. Cook until cheese has melted.

  1. I LOVE this soup! I reduced the hot sauce, as my family prefers a milder flavor. I didn’t have low sodium chicken broth, so I diluted chicken stock with water and it was perfect! (3 cups chicken stock and 1 cup water) Costco has really good “smallish” smoked hams, which I diced for this recipe and sliced the rest for meals this week.

  2. I’ve got it in the crockpot as I’m typing this. Just a quick question…do you need to use an immersion blender to smooth it out? The picture looks smooth, but how does that happen? Thanks!

    1. It just happens as the hash browns cook. The soup gets smooth as your stir it when the cheese goes in.

  3. Made the soup today for lunch. Instead of sour cream I used Greek yogurt. Worked out great. Hubby ate two bowls so it’s a winner.
