I am a big fan of slow cooker meals. I love dumping everything in the slow cooker and coming home to dinner. This Slow Cooker Parmesan Chicken & Rice is one of our favorites. It is SO easy and SOOOO delicious! Chicken and Rice with garlic and parmesan – all of my favorites in one dish!
This makes a lot of chicken and rice. I shredded my cooked chicken and stirred it back into the rice. You can also leave the cooked chicken breasts whole and just serve them with the cooked rice. Either way is fine. I just prefer finding chunks of chicken in my cheesy rice.
We LOVED this cheesy chicken and rice! It tastes great right out of the slow cooker or leftover for lunch the next day! It reminded me a lot of chicken risotto. I happen to LOVE chicken risotto, so this is right up my alley. Put it on the menu ASAP!!!
How to Make Slow Cooker Parmesan Chicken & Rice
This casserole is super easy to make. Spray the slow cooker insert with cooking spray and lay the chicken in the bottom. You will need 3 or 4 boneless chicken breasts, just depending on their size. You are shooting for about 2 pounds of chicken. Next mix together the soup mix, cream of chicken soup, milk and rice. Pour over the chicken. Cover the slow cooker and let it work its magic! If you feel like the chicken and rice mixture is too thick, feel free to add some chicken broth or extra milk to thin it out. Feel free to throw in some frozen mixed vegetables too. YUM!
This Slow Cooker Parmesan Chicken & Rice uses a packet of Lipton’s garlic soup mix. It will be next to the Lipton’s Onion Soup Mix at the grocery store. Please note, you are only going to just use the mix. Don’t make the soup. Also, make sure to use regular long-grain rice, not instant. If you use brown rice, you will need to adjust the liquid and the cooking time.

Slow Cooker Parmesan Chicken & Rice
Equipment:
Ingredients:
- 4 to 6 skinless boneless chicken breasts about 2 lbs
- 2 (10.5-oz) cans Unsalted Cream of Chicken Soup
- 1 package Lipton Savory Herb with Garlic Soup & Dip Mix
- 1¾ cups milk
- 1 cup regular long-grain rice
- salt and pepper to taste
- ¼ cup grated parmesan
Instructions:
- Spray the insert of the slow cooker with cooking spray. Place chicken in the bottom.
- Mix together the cream of chicken soup, Lipton Garlic Soup Mix, milk, and regular rice. Season with salt and pepper, if desired. Pour over chicken. Sprinkle parmesan cheese on top of rice mixture.
- Cover slow cooker and cook on HIGH for 3 or 4 hours.
- Remove chicken from slow cooker and chop. Place back in the slow cooker and stir to combine.
- If rice mixture is too thick, add water, chicken broth or additional milk to thin out.
Notes:
- Do not cook rice in advance. I used Great Value Long-Grain Rice.
- To avoid sticky rice, rinse your rice before adding it to the slow cooker. Rinsing the rice removes excess start that causes the rice to plump and stick together.
- This recipe is formulated to use long-grain white rice. I have not made this with brown rice. Brown rice and white rice are not equal substitutes. Brown rice uses more liquid and takes much longer to cook.
- I used a Hamilton Beach 6-qt Slow Cooker. It took 3 ½ hours.
- The rice will not be light and fluffy like plain cooked rice. The rice is soft. This is a casserole. The mixture will be somewhat thick.
- I buy the soup mix online at Amazon: https://amzn.to/4aHQJW1
- If you can’t find the soup mix, you can substitute a package of Good Seasonings Italian Dressing Mix.
- I suggest using Unsalted Cream of Chicken Soup in this dish to control the sodium.
- You can buy it by the case at Amazon: https://amzn.to/49n4uZE
- Need Gluten-free Cream of Chicken Soup? You can buy it here: https://amzn.to/3MtqQ1s

What can I substitute the garlic & herb mix with? I can not find it in any of my surrounding stores?
I want to try this recipe but right now I can’t find the Lipton Savory Herb & Garlic Recipe Soup & Dip Mix in the local stores. Can you recommend a substitute?
You can try a package of Italian dressing mix or onion soup mix.
Thank you! I didn’t see the previous answer to that same question. I’ll give it a try!
Can I cook this on LOW for 6-8hrs?
I can’t find the Lipton Herb and Garlic soup at Publix, Kroger, Walmart, or Target. And, like you, I live in Alabama. Help? What are your substitute suggestions?
You can use onion soup mix or a packet of Good Seasonings Italian dressing mix.
The Slow Cooker Parmesan Chicken and Rice is the bomb dot com!!! Absolutely delicious!!! Unfortunately, I couldn’t find the Lipton Onion and Garlic soup mix, so I added about 2 teaspoons of minced garlic to the dish. My house smelled amazing while the dish was cooking in my slow cooker. I will be making this again. Thank you so much for sharing!!!
What can I substitute if we don’t like onions or onion soup mix. Thanks and War Eagle!
You could use the Savory Herb & Garlic Recipe Soup Mix that is actually used in the recipe?
The Lipton mix comes with 2 packs in the box, so i just want to confirm, is it one pack or one box? I assumed one of the 2 packs but in the video it looked like there was more.
I used one pack
This recipe is so good and easy! I used onion soup mix because it’s what I had on hand it was absolutely delicious. Peas are a lovely addition. Thank you!
Have you tried freezings this casserole?
How long would you cook it in the Instant Pot?
you can use the slow cooker option on the Instant Pot. I assume the cooking time would be the same.
I can’t find the Lipton Savory garlic & herb soup & Dip mix. I found Good Seasons Garlic & herb salad dressing & Recipe mix. Can I use that?
that should be fine
Can I substitute water for the milk?
I’m sure that would be fine
Could I use regular white rice?
Does minute rice work for this recipe?
I haven’t made this with minute rice. The cooking time and liquids would change. You would have to play with the measurements & cooking time.
This is probably a silly question but what type of grated Parmesan did you use? Was it the actual grated cheese or the shaky kind that comes out of the jar?
Either is perfectly fine. I buy blocks of parmesan cheese and grate it in my food processor.
Do you know what the conversion would be for using brown rice???
I haven’t made this with brown rice, so I am not sure of the cooking times.
Thank you Stephanie. I have plenty of onion soup mix. I’ll give that a try.
