These Super Soft Rice Krispie Treats are the Rice Krispie Treats of your dreams! SUPER soft and they stay that way for DAYS!! Perfect to make ahead for parties or pop in the mail to a friend. The secret to getting super soft treats? Sweetened condensed milk. Most Rice Krispie treats are great the day you make them, but not so much a day or two later. Not these! These treats stay soft for 3 to 4 days. I say that, but I’m not 100% sure that is true. We gobbled these up in no time. Give these a try ASAP!
How to Make Super Soft Rice Krispie Treats
These treats are super easy to make. Start with melting butter in a large saucepan or Dutch oven. Add sweetened condensed milk and stir until combined. Add marshmallows and stir continuously until melted. Remove the pot from the heat and stir in vanilla, rice cereal, and 1 cup of mini marshmallows. Press the cereal mixture into a buttered baking dish and let cool until set.
- I pressed the cereal treats into an 8-inch square pan. Feel free to use a 9-inch square pan or a 9×13-inch pan if you want thinner treats.
- The bars set up better if you refrigerate them for a few hours. The bars are pretty gooey and soft if don’t refrigerate them.
- To easily remove the treats from the dish, line the baking dish with parchment paper. Cut the parchment paper a little larger than the pan so it hangs over the edge.
- How long do Rice Krispie Treats last? These dessert bars will keep 3 to 4 days in an air-tight container.
- Are Rice Krispie Treats gluten-free? Yes! Make sure to look for a gluten-free rice cereal such as: Malt O Meal, Wegmans, Erewhon, or Aldi.
- What to make with leftover sweetened condensed milk? I use the leftover milk to make one of our favorite pies:
- Lemon Velvet Cream Pie: https://www.plainchicken.com/lemon-velvet-cream-pie/
- Key Lime Pie with White Chocolate Macadamia Nut Crust: https://www.plainchicken.com/white-chocolate-macadamia-nut-key-lime-pie/

Question– is it 1- 10oz bag mini marshmallows PLUS another 1c to add in later? Or 1 bag, remove a cup for mixing in later before melting?
one bag PLUS one cup of marshmallows. You can skip the extra marshmallows if you prefer. We just like the extra whole marshmallows.
This are in the fridge now. Waiting is hard.
Just a heads up that Rice Krispies brand cereal is NOT gluten free. It contains malt which is from barley.
Thanks for pointing that out. My go-to gluten-free rice cereals are Yes! Malt O Meal, Wegmans, Erewhon, or Aldi.
