Stop what you are doing and add this Tangy Bacon Cheddar Chicken to your menu ASAP! This has been a staple at our house for years. This is Chicken Legs’ most requested dish from the blog. He asks me to make this recipe at least twice a month. Sweet & tangy chicken topped with bacon & cheese – I mean, what’s not to like?!?! This chicken makes for a quick and easy weeknight meal. We both love this chicken so much that it is already back on the menu this weekend.
How to Make Tangy Bacon Cheddar Chicken
This chicken is very simple to make. Whisk together honey, mustard, lemon juice, paprika, and cayenne pepper. Pour the marinade over some chicken and let it marinate for a few hours to overnight. When ready to cook, pop the chicken in the skillet and cook for a few minutes on each side. Transfer the chicken to a rimmed baking sheet and finish cooking in the oven. Top the chicken with a few pieces of cooked bacon and shredded cheddar cheese. Pop the chicken back in the oven until the cheese has melted and enjoy!
- I used boneless skinless chicken breasts in this recipe. Feel free to use your favorite cut of chicken instead. This would be great with chicken thighs or tenders too. Just make sure to adjust the cooking time and check for an internal temperature of 165ºF.
- I cooked the chicken on the stove and finished it off in the oven. Feel free to grill the chicken if you prefer.
- You can substitute turkey bacon for pork bacon if you want to reduce the calories in the dish.
- Feel free to use your favorite cheese in place of the cheddar. I like pepper jack or gouda.

Can I use regular mustard?
You can use any mustard that you prefer.
Yummy! I have a George Foreman grill also, but the bacon grease probably makes it taste even better!!
Went home today to marinate the chicken for our dinner tonight! Can't wait – this looks incredible =)
What is that rice in the picture? It looks delicious!

I grill the chicken on my George Foreman Grill. Then, I put them on a baking sheet and top with the cheese and bacon, and put them in the oven for about 5 minutes or so. Just long enough to melt the cheese. This has been a big hit with my family who normally don't care for chicken. Soooo glad it's so easy too. 🙂
This is very similar to a recipe that I make. I grill my cheicken breaasts, then put them on a baking sheet and put one tbsp of BBQ sauce on them, 3 or 4 thin slices ham and then a large slice of ColbyJack cheese. Bake until cheese is melted. Kids love it.
