French Onion Green Bean Casserole – hands down the BEST green bean casserole! Even our vegetable haters loved this casserole. Only 5 ingredients – green beans, cream of mushroom soup, french onion dip, cheddar cheese, and french fried onions. Can assemble ahead of time and refrigerate overnight. This was a HUGE hit in our house!
Preheat oven to 350ºF. Lightly spray a 9x13-inch baking dish with cooking spray.
Combine drained green beans cream of mushroom soup, French onion dip, 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese and 1/2 of the French fried onions.
Spread green bean mixture into prepared pan.
Bake for 25 minutes. Remove from oven, top with remaining cheese and onions. Bake an additional 5 minutes.
Notes:
I used canned green beans because that is what we prefer. Feel free to substitute an equivalent amount of fresh or frozen green beans.
4 cans of green beans are approximately 3 pounds fresh or 32-ounces frozen green beans
For the french onion dip, it is important to use a container for a refrigerated sour cream dip in this recipe. Look for Kraft, Barber’s, Dean’s, or Heluva Good Dip.
If you can't find the dip, add a tablespoon or two of Onion Soup Mix to sour cream.
I suggest using Unsalted Cream of Mushroom Soup in this dish to control the sodium.
Substitute mushroom bouillon to make cream of mushroom soup.
