Oreo Buttercream Frosting - if you are an Oreo fan, you MUST make this easy homemade frosting ASAP! Super simple to make and tastes great! Butter, powdered sugar, heavy cream, vanilla, and crushed Oreo cookies. I could eat this with a spoon! Great on cakes, cupcakes, and sandwiched between cookies.
In the bowl of an electric mixer fitted with the paddle attachment, cream butter until smooth and creamy, 2 to 3 minutes.
With the mixer on low speed, add powdered sugar, whipping cream, and vanilla; mix until light and fluffy.
Stir in crushed Oreo cookies.
If necessary, gradually add more powdered sugar or heavy cream to reach desired consistency.
Notes:
Can substitute milk for the heavy cream in the frosting.
I crushed my cookies in the food processor until they were the consistency of sand.
We like a lot of Oreo's in the frosting. Feel free to use more or less depending on your family's preferences. I've used as many as 30 in the frosting! You may need to add more powdered sugar or heavy cream depending on your desired consistency.
Buttercream frosting can be made ahead of time and stored in an airtight container in the fridge for 1 week. Let it come to room temperature then re-whip with an electric mixer until light and fluffy again before frosting the cake.
You can use this frosting on any type of cake that you prefer - sheet cake, layer cake, or cupcakes.
I used original Oreo cookies. Feel free to use any flavor you enjoy.
Can use gluten-free Oreo cookies for a gluten-free frosting.
