Million Dollar Chicken Pierogi Casserole – comfort food at its best! Super easy to make and tastes great! Pierogis, Alfredo sauce, cottage cheese, cream cheese, sour cream, french fried onions, cheddar cheese, and chicken. Kids and adults gobble up this easy casserole. You can make ahead of time and refrigerate or freeze it for later.
Preheat oven to 375ºF. Lightly spray a 9x13-inch pan with cooking spray. Set aside.
In a large bowl, combine Alfredo sauce, cottage cheese, cream cheese, and sour cream. Season with salt and black pepper. Stir in cooked chopped chicken, half of the french fried onions, and pierogies.
Transfer the pierogi mixture to a casserole dish. Sprinkle with cheddar cheese and remaining french fried onions.
Bake, uncovered, for 35 to 45 minutes.
Notes:
I use rotisserie chicken for the shredded chicken in this recipe.
You can use any cooked chicken that you have on hand. Chicken breasts, chicken thighs, or chicken tenderloins all work fine.
There is no need to fully thaw the pierogies before adding to the casserole, they will cook in the oven along with the other ingredients.
You only need the pierogies thawed enough to separate into individual pierogies.
For crispier pierogies, melt butter in a large skillet and cook pierogies on both sides until starting to turn golden brown.
You want the cream cheese to be very soft so it gets fully incorporated into the casserole. Microwave the cream cheese for 15 to 20 seconds if you are short on time.
My favorite jarred Alfredo sauce is Rao's. I also like Trader Joe's and Bertolli d'Italia Alfredo sauce.
Feel free to add spinach or chopped broccoli to the casserole.
