Slow Cooker Dr. Pepper Pulled Pork Recipe – our go-to recipe for pulled pork with only 4 ingredients! Pork tenderloin, Dr. Pepper, chipotle peppers in adobo sauce, and BBQ sauce. Super tender and loaded with tons of great flavor! Great for Memorial Day, 4th of July, Labor Day & tailgating. Serve the shredded pork on buns, over a baked potato, on a salad, in pork tacos, or pork nachos! YUM!
Place the pork in the crockpot. Pour Dr. Pepper and chipotle peppers over the pork.
Cover and cook on low for 8-10 hours.
Remove from crockpot and shred. Add the pork back to the crockpot and stir in your favorite BBQ sauce.
Notes:
If you feel that there is too much liquid in the slow cooker after cooking the pork, drain some off until you reach your desired amount.
When cooking pork tenderloin, it is important to remove the silver skin on the side of each pork tenderloin. The silver skin is a silvery-white sheen membrane on the pork tenderloins. It is a thick connective tissue and it doesn’t break down when the pork is cooked. I use a knife and carefully cut it off. If you don’t remove the silver skin, you will have a tough uneatable area on each tenderloin.
You make this dish with any cut of pork – boneless pork shoulder (pork butt/Boston butt), pork loin roast, or a pork roast work great.
Can I use a bone-in pork shoulder? Yes! If using a bone-in shoulder, you will just need to cook the pork on the higher end of the cooking time.
Can I cook pork on HIGH in the crockpot? Yes! You can cook the pork on HIGH for about 3 to 4 hours.
My favorite store-bought BBQ sauces are G. Hughes, Sweet Baby Rays, Stubbs, and Williamson Brothers.
Can pulled pork be frozen? Yes! Make the pork as directed and shred. Toss the pork with sauce, if desired. Let the pork cool completely and place it in a freezer bag and freeze. When ready to serve, thaw and reheat in the microwave or on the stovetop.
Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator.
