These Super Soft Rice Krispie Treats are the Rice Krispie Treats of your dreams! SUPER soft and they stay that way for DAYS!! The secret to getting super soft treats? Sweetened condensed milk. One bite and you will never make Rice Krispie treats any other way! Butter, sweetened condensed milk, marshmallows, vanilla, and Rice Krispies cereal. Perfect make-ahead gluten-free dessert for parties!
Grease an 8×8×2-inch pan with cooking spray or softened butter. Line with parchment paper leaving a few inches of overhang.
Melt butter over medium heat in a large pot or Dutch oven. Add sweetened condensed milk and stir until combined.
Add the bag of marshmallows and stir until melted and smooth. Remove from heat.
Carefully stir in the vanilla, cereal, and the remaining cup of marshmallows.
Transfer the cereal mixture to the prepared pan and press down gently. Be careful to to overpack the cereal.
Refrigerate treats for 1 to 2 hours, until cool and set. Cut into 16 squares and serve.
Notes:
I pressed the cereal treats into an 8-inch square pan. Feel free to use a 9-inch square pan or a 9x13-inch pan if you want thinner treats.
The bars set up better if you refrigerate them for a few hours. The bars are pretty gooey and soft if don't refrigerate them.
To easily remove the treats from the dish, line the baking dish with parchment paper. Cut the parchment paper a little larger than the pan so it hangs over the edge.
For gluten-free treats, use a gluten-free rice cereal such as: Malt O Meal, Wegmans, Erewhon, or Aldi.
How long do Rice Krispie Treats last? These dessert bars will keep 3 to 4 days in an air-tight container.
What to make with leftover sweetened condensed milk? I use the leftover milk to make one of our favorite pies:
