Rotel Sausage Balls with Cheez Whiz – our favorite sausage balls kicked up with Rotel diced tomatoes and green chiles. Only 4 simple ingredients - sausage, Bisquick biscuit mix, Cheez Whiz, and Rotel tomatoes. Can make ahead of time and freeze unbaked for a quick snack later. Serve with some salsa or queso. SO GOOD! These things fly off the plate at parties! Also great for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snacks.
1(10-oz)can Rotel diced tomatoes and green chilies,drained
Instructions:
Preheat oven to 400ºF. Line a rimmed baking sheet with parchment paper.
In the bowl of an electric mixer fitted with the dough hook, combine sausage, Bisquick, Cheese Whiz, and Rotel tomatoes. Mix until combined.
Use a medium cookie scoop and scoop the sausage mixture into 1-inch balls. Place on the prepared baking sheet.
Bake for 12-15 minutes, until golden brown.
Notes:
I use Jimmy Dean Hot Sausage. Feel free to use mild sausage or mild Italian sausage both work well.
You can substitute turkey sausage for ground pork sausage.
Do NOT cook sausage. You are using the sausage raw.
If you don't have an electric stand mixer, you can mix the sausage ball mixture by hand in a large bowl.
Need a gluten-free snack? Use gluten-free Bisquick.
Feel free to add sharp cheddar cheese, green onions, a dash of Worcestershire sauce.
Use any flavor or heat level of Rotel diced tomatoes and green chiles. Hot, Original, Mild, or Mexican.
Can sausage balls be made in advance? Yes! You can form the sausage mixture into balls and refrigerate them overnight.
Can sausage balls be frozen? Yes! Mix pork sausage, Bisquick, Rotel, and Cheeze Whiz until combined. Shape mixture into balls. Place the balls on a baking sheet and freeze. Once balls are frozen, transfer to a ziplock freezer bag.
To bake the sausage balls after freezing. place on a parchment-lined cookie sheet and bake until golden brown. There is no need to thaw the balls before baking.
