Prepare the brownie mix according to the package directions.
Bake for 30 minutes. Remove from the oven.
In a medium bowl, stir together softened butter, brown sugar, egg, vanilla extract, chocolate chips, and chopped pecans.
Gently spoon the chocolate mixture over the top of the partially baked brownies.
Return the pan to the oven, and cook for an additional 18 to 20 minutes, until a toothpick inserted into the center of the brownies come out clean or with moist crumbs.
Sprinkle with flaked sea salt, if desired. Cool completely and cut into bars.
Notes:
I like to pop the brownies in the fridge for a few minutes to let the chocolate chips set up before cutting into squares.
You can use a boxed brownie mix or use a homemade brownie recipe.
Drizzle the brownies with chocolate sauce or caramel for an extra indulgent treat!
I use semi-sweet chocolate chips. Can substitute dark chocolate chips, bittersweet chocolate chips, or white chocolate chips.
Can I freeze brownies? Yes! Bake the brownies and cool to room temperature. Wrap the brownies in plastic wrap and aluminum foil. Place in a freezer bag. Store in the freezer for up to 3 months.
Can substitute walnuts, peanuts, or pistachios.
Store brownies in an airtight container in the refrigerator.
