Crock Pot Boiled Peanuts – a staple at gas stations and roadside stands in the South. Raw peanuts, water, and salt slow cooked overnight in the crock pot. Add seasonings to water – great with crab boil seasoning, jalapeños and cajun seasoning! The perfect snack for game day, picnics, or any time you're craving a salty treat.
Rinse the peanuts in cold water. Discard the dirty water . Transfer the peanuts to a 6-quart slow cooker.
In a large mixing bowl, combine 15 cups of warm water, the salt and oil. Pour over the peanuts.
Cover the slow cooker with the lid and cook on high for 20 hours.
If the slow cooker lid doesn’t fit tightly, check about halfway through the cooking time. You may need to add more water. Drain peanuts to serve.
Notes:
I use raw peanuts. You can make this recipe with green peanuts.
Raw peanuts take longer to soften.
What is the difference between raw peanuts and green peanuts?
Raw peanuts have been air-dried to keep them fresh and ready for you anytime you want. They're the all-season champs. Green peanuts are straight out of the ground, no drying off yet. They've still got all that farm-fresh moisture.
This is a very basic recipe. Get creative with spices and flavors!
Old Bay Seasoning
Ranch Seasoning
Cajun Seasoning
Taco Seasoning
Jalapenos
Apple Cider Vinegar
Red Pepper Flakes
Garlic powder
Don't skimp on the seasonings and salt! You need a lot of seasoning in the liquid for the peanuts to absorb. If you can't taste the seasoning in the water, then you won't be able to taste it in the peanuts.
