Trim green beans. Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Cook green beans for 3 minutes. While beans are cooking, place ice and water in a large bowl. Remove green beans from boiling water with tongs and place in ice water. Cool slightly and drain. Dry beans with a paper towel.
Sprinkle beans with garlic powder and onion powder.
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Line a baking sheet with foil. Set aside.
Cut bacon slices into three pieces.
Place 5-6 green beans on top of bacon strip and tightly roll up. Place on a foil lined baking sheet, and repeat with remaining green beans and bacon. (*At this point, you can cover and refrigerate the green beans until you are ready to cook.*)
Sprinkle green beans with salt, black pepper and brown sugar. Melt butter and drizzle over green bean bundles.
Bake for 20-25 minutes, until bacon is cooked.
Notes:
Place the bundles under the broiler for crispier bacon.
I suggest using regular-cut bacon and NOT thick cut bacon. The thicker strips of bacon will take longer to cook and your beans may be overcooked.
Can substitute turkey bacon for lower calories.
You can use any fresh green beans that you enjoy. I use regular green beans. Haricots verts or french green beans work great.
Feel free to add a dash of soy sauce to the bundles.
Add a drizzle of maple syrup for a sweet and savory dish.
Can Bacon Wrapped Green Beans be made in advance? Yes. You can assemble the bundles and refrigerate them before baking. Add the brown sugar and melted butter before baking.
Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator.
