Quick Chili Cheese Dogs with Homemade Hot Dog Chili - hot dogs topped with a quick homemade chili, cheese, and green onions. SO easy and they taste great! Ground beef, onion, garlic, tomato sauce, chili powder, salt, pepper, and water. The homemade chili is good enough to stand on its own, but it really puts the hot dogs over the top. I get hungry just thinking about these yummy chili dogs! All you need is some baked beans and coleslaw and you are set!
In a large skillet, cook ground chuck until browned. Drain fat. Add onion flakes and garlic. Cook until fragrant, 30 seconds. Stir in tomato sauce, chili powder, salt, pepper, and water. Bring to a boil.
Cover and reduce heat. Simmer for 25 minutes, stirring occasionally.
Place cooked hot dogs in buns. Top with chili, cheese and green onions.
Notes:
Can substitute ground turkey or ground chicken for the ground beef in this recipe.
The chili can be made ahead of time and reheated in the microwave or the stove when you are ready to assemble these chili dogs.
Can use any flavor of hot dogs or bratwurst that you prefer.
Can Hot Dog Chili be frozen? Absolutely! Let the chili cool completely and transfer to a freezer bag or plastic container and freeze. When ready to serve, thaw and reheat in the microwave or the stove.
