Hissy Fit Hash Brown Breakfast Casserole – seriously the BEST! All the flavors of our favorite dip in a casserole. Only a few simple ingredients – hash browns, sausage, Velveeta, Muenster cheese, Worcestershire sauce, garlic, onion, milk, and eggs. Great for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. You can make this ahead of time and refrigerate or freeze it until ready to bake! Perfect for hectic weekday mornings, overnight guests, and holiday mornings.
Preheat oven to 350ºF. Lightly spray a 9x13-inch pan with cooking spray.
In a large skillet, cook sausage until no longer pink. Drain fat and set aside.
Add hash browns to skillet and cook until lightly brown. (Add a little oil to the skillet if necessary.) Place hash browns in bottom of lightly greased 9x13-inch pan. Top with sausage and cheese.
Whisk together eggs, salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, milk, and Worcestershire sauce. Pour over the hash brown mixture.
Bake, uncovered, for 45 to 60 minutes.
Notes:
Thaw the frozen hash browns before browning them in the skillet.
I use Jimmy Dean Hot Sausage. Any brand of pork sausage will work fine.
Feel free to substitute turkey sausage for a lower-calorie option.
Feel free to add bell peppers, red bell pepper, mushrooms, or onions to the casserole.
I used shredded Velveeta cheese. I buy it at Walmart. You can also use a block of Velveeta and cut it into small squares.
Don't like Velveeta? You can substitute any cheese that you prefer. Cheddar cheese, colby-jack, Monterey jack, mozzarella, or gouda all work great.
Can Hash Brown Breakfast Casserole be made in advance? Yes! You can assemble the casserole ahead of time and refrigerate it overnight before baking. If you are baking this right after taking it out of the refrigerator, you may need to add a few minutes to the cooking time.
Can Hash Brown Breakfast Casserole be frozen? Yes! You can assemble the casserole and cover the baking dish with plastic wrap and aluminum foil. Place in the freezer for up to 3 months.
To bake the casserole after freezing, thaw completely and bake as directed.
Don’t need to feed a crowd? You can split this casserole between two 9×9-inch pans. Bake one now and freeze one for later.
Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge.
