How to Make Hissy Fit Hashbrown Breakfast Casserole

This casserole recipe is super easy to make with only a few simple ingredients  In a large skillet cook sausage over medium-high heat until no longer pink. Remove sausage from the skillet. Add hash brown potatoes to the skillet and cook them until they start to brown. Place the hash browns in a baking dish. Top with cooked sausage, Velveeta cheese and muenster cheese. In a large bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Pour egg mixture over the hash browns in a 9×13-inch casserole dish. Bake uncovered until the eggs are set. Garnish the baked casserole with parsley or green onions.

Helpful Tips & Frequently Asked Questions

  • Thaw the frozen hash browns before browning them in the skillet.
  • I use Jimmy Dean Hot Sausage. Any brand of pork sausage will work fine.
  • Feel free to substitute turkey sausage for a lower-calorie option.
  • Feel free to add bell peppers, red bell pepper, mushrooms, or onions to the casserole.
  • I used shredded Velveeta cheese. I buy it at Walmart. You can also use a block of Velveeta and cut it into small squares.
  • Don’t like Velveeta? You can substitute any cheese that you prefer. Cheddar cheese, colby-jack, Monterey jack, mozzarella, or gouda all work great.
  • Can Hash Brown Breakfast Casserole be made in advance? Yes! You can assemble the casserole ahead of time and refrigerate it overnight before baking. If you are baking this right after taking it out of the refrigerator, you may need to add a few minutes to the cooking time.
  • Can Hash Brown Breakfast Casserole be frozen? Yes! You can assemble the casserole and cover the baking dish with plastic wrap and aluminum foil. Place in the freezer for up to 3 months.
    • To bake the casserole after freezing, thaw completely and bake as directed.
  • Don’t need to feed a crowd? You can split this casserole between two 9×9-inch pans. Bake one now and freeze one for later.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge.
