Strawberry Tres Leches Cake recipe- transform box cake mix into the most amazing dessert! This is seriously one of the best cakes I've ever made. Strawberry cake, soaked in sweetened condensed milk, evaporated milk, and half-and-half and topped with fresh whipped cream and freeze-dried strawberries. SO good! My husband asked for this to be his birthday cake. Such a great dessert recipe!
Prepare cake the according to package directions. Bake in a greased and floured 9x13 pan according to package directions.
Mix together sweetened condensed milk, evaporated milk and half and half.
Remove cake from oven. Poke holes in warm cake and slowly pour milk mixture over cake. Cool cake completely. Cover and refrigerate overnight.
When ready to serve, whip together heavy cream, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract. Whip at high speed for 1-2 minutes. Spread over cake and top with chopped strawberries.
Notes:
I use a chopstick, straw, or spoon handle to poke holes in the cake.
You can substitute a tub of Cool Whip for the fresh whipped cream if you prefer.
For extra strawberry flavor:
Substitute strawberry milk for half-and-half.
Fold fresh chopped strawberries into the batter
Add a layer of strawberry jam on top of the cake before adding whipped cream
If you don't have a stand mixer, you can make the homemade whipped cream in a medium bowl with a hand-held electric mixer.
Does Strawberry Tres Leches Cake need to be refrigerated? Yes. Cover the baking dish with plastic wrap and store it in the refrigerator.
