Instructions:
Preheat oven to 375ºF. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
Cut each can of crescent roll dough into 4 rectangles. Place one hotdog in the center of each rectangle and fold the dough over the hotdog. You want a small amount of extra dough that is not touching the dog at the seam – this will make it easier to twist. Pinch edges to seal.
Cut the hot dog into 8 slices – leaving the overhang dough uncut. Place the cut hot dogs onto a baking sheet. Twist first cut portion to the left, and second to the right, repeat this for the rest of the portions.
Bake for 15 to 20 minutes or until golden brown.
Notes:
I use bun-length hot dogs. You can use any hot dog that you enjoy.
Substitute turkey dogs for lower calories.
You can use crescent dough sheets or crescent rolls. If using crescent rolls, make sure to seal the perforations.
The trick to these is to make sure that there is some extra dough at the seam after you wrap the dog; you need some uncut dough at the seam so you can twist it more easily.
Add half of a slice of American cheese or shredded cheddar cheese to the hot dogs. You can add the cheese inside the dough or sprinkle it over the top of the hot dogs.
Brush the hot dogs with an egg wash made with one egg and 1 Tbsp heavy cream for a deeper golden brown color.
Add a sprinkle of poppy seeds, sesame seeds, or Everything Bagel Seasoning over the top of the hot dogs for extra flavor.
Can I make Crescent Roll Hot Dogs in advance? You can assemble the crescent dogs ahead of time. Cover the baking sheet with plastic wrap and store it in the refrigerator overnight.
Can I freeze Crescent Dogs? Yes. Bake and cool the hot dogs to room temperature. Place the hot dogs in a freezer bag and store them in the freezer for up to four months.
Reheat in the microwave.
Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge.
