Pin This RecipeNeed a last-minute holiday dessert? These Cake Mix Toffee Bars are the perfect last-minute dessert! They only have five simple ingredients and are a snap to make. I had the bars ready to bake before my oven had preheated. LOVE quick and easy desserts like this one!
These bars are best if you can make them a day in advance. I like to refrigerate them so they set up and aren’t too gooey. Waiting to dig into these yummy Cake Mix Toffee Bars is really the hardest part of the whole recipe!
These Cake Mix Toffee Bars are great for any last-minute holiday parties, potlucks or homemade gifts. These bars are pretty rich, so I cut them into at least 24 squares. You can make them bigger or smaller according to your personal preference. Chicken Legs prefers about 8 bars for the pan – LOL! I am whipping up another batch this week! SO good!

Hi!…used a Golden Vanilla Cake Mix….only had half a bag of Score Chip…so used Butterscotch Chips and made up the weight difference with some Milk Chocolate Chips….I always use a 15” x 10” x 1” pan when making my bars….I like that they are thinner!
Turned out great!!
These sound delicious! When you double the recipe, what size pan do you use?
18×26 or just make it in two 9×13-inch baking dishes
Can U substitute caramel sauce for the sweetened condensed milk?
I don’t think that would work in this recipe.
Could I omit the egg or substitute?
You need the egg in the crust.
Can you freeze these.?
I haven’t tried freezing these bars, but I would think they would be fine.
I’m sorry I’m a beginner at baking when you say make a day ahead and let it sit over night do you
mean bake it the next day
No. You need to bake it as soon as you assemble it.
Hi Dawn,
What she’s saying is that you’ll want to bake the bars the day before & let them set overnight. Some recipes are best when done this way b’cause it gives all the ingredients a chance to “marry” & enhances the flavor of that particular recipe. I hope this helps❣️
10 stars! Delicious and in the oven in about 5 minutes! I used a bag of Heath Bits and a bag of Butterfinger Bis because that’s what I had on hand.
YUM! I bet they were delicious with the Butterfinger bits!
I only had chocolate cake mix and one bag of toffee bits, so I added some white chocolate chips, chopped pecans and coconut. Best bars ever!!
Can I use coconut cream in place of sweet condensed milk?
What a great idea! But unfortunately, without further recipe testing, I cannot answer with certainty. As always, please use your best judgment regarding substitutions and modifications.
I tried with spice cake .. that’s all I had at the time. Only had one 8oz bag of Heath bits partially eaten. So I did have some chocolate and vanilla bits. Lol They turned out yummy. Froze them . Take them out when I want something sweet. They thaw quickly. I have even zapped them to help along. Maybe 10-15 sec. They were still fine. But tomorrow I have all the right ingredients. Can’t wait to make with the yellow cake mix. These are so yummy!!
I’ve been making these every Christmas to add to my Christmas cookies. They are always a big hit! So easy & so yummy!! 😋 Thank you!
Came across this today, tried the recipe tonight. Excellent! I used white cake, skor chipits, salted caramel and a few sprinkles of chocolate chipits. Yummy! Glad you posted and glad I found it.
Definitely a keeper!!
Can anything be substituted for the sweetened condensed milk??
Thanks Donna
I don’t think so
