Top 10 Places to See in Barcelona Spain - ten must see places on your trip to Barcelona.
A few weeks ago I took a trip to Spain!
It was my first time in the country, and I absolutely LOVED it!
I went with my favorite travel buddy, Amanda from www.kevinandamanda.com
We spent 10 nights in Madrid, Barcelona, Toledo and Segovia.
We had a great time!!
Today I am sharing the Top 10 Places to See in Barcelona.
Barcelona was SO colorful!! Just wait until you see all the photos.
We also went into the most AMAZING church EVER!
I highly recommend a trip to Barcelona!

La Sagrada Familia
I’ve been in a lot of beautiful churches around the world, and La Sagrada Familia is one of the most beautiful ones of them all. The outside is still a work in progress and is scheduled to be completed in 2026. I MUST go back to see the completed project!

Construction of Sagrada Família was started in 1882 by architect Francisco Paula de Villar. Famed Barcelona architect, Antoni Gaudí, took over the project 1883. He transformed it with his architectural and engineering style, combining Gothic and curvilinear Art Nouveau forms. When Gaudí died in 1926, only 15 – 25% of the basilica was complete.
There are three façades on La Sagrada Familia.
The Nativity Fa̤ade Рdepicting the birth of Jesus.
The Passion Fa̤ade Рsymbolizing the death of Christ.
The Glory Façade is the third facade.
Construction began on the Glory Facade in 2002.
It will represent the road to God: Death, Final Judgment, and Glory, while Hell is left for those who deviate from God’s will.
The completion of this façade will require the demolition of the complete block across from the basilica.
We weren’t able to walk on that side of the basilica due to the construction.
It is on the left side of the photos of the basilica.

The inside of the basilica is AMAZING!
It takes your breath away.

I could have stayed in this spot all day long.
Look at the light coming through the stained glass.
I’ve never seen anything like it before.

The ceiling of the basilica is equally impressive.
I didn’t want to leave!
SO beautiful!!
We took a tour of the church with Unique Tours Factory.
They bought the tickets and gave us a great guided tour of the basilica.
TONS of great information and plenty of time to explore and photograph everything.

Palau de la Música Catalana
Palau de la Música Catalana is a concert hall in Barcelona.
It was built between 1905 and 1908.

The most unique feature of the concert hall is the stained glass skylight.

Look at how amazing it is!
We went on a cloudy/rainy day.
I can only imagine the colors on a beautiful sunny day!

I loved the columns on the outside.

They are covered with tons of broken tiles.
BEAUTIFUL!
Today, over 500,000 people attend concerts at Palau de la Música Catalana.
It attracts the most popular and talented musicians from around the world.

Casa Batlló
Casa Batlló is another Antoni Gaudí structure in Barcelona.
It was built in 1877.

I LOVE the skull balconies and all of the beautiful tiles!
Look at all the colors in the roof!!!

The interior is just as colorful.

The rooftop chimneys are covered in colorful tiles.
I loved the archways in the loft.
The loft was originally a service area and has sixty catenary arches.

Park Güell
Park Güell is located in La Salut, a neighborhood in the Gràcia district of Barcelona.
It is another Antoni Gaudí masterpiece.
The park was built between 1900 and 1914 and was officially opened as a public park in 1926.

Gaudí was very into preserving nature and making the park and nature become one.

The super cute “gingerbread houses” at the entrance to the park.
The park is open to the public. There is a fee to get into the main area with the views of the gingerbread houses.

Casa Milà (La Pedrera)
Casa Milà is a modernist building in Barcelona.
It was the last civil work designed by architect Antoni Gaudí and was built from 1906 to 1912.

The interior of this building was one of my favorites.
I LOVED the oval design.
It was so interesting.
Looking down from the roof.

There is usually a line for the tours.
Make sure to buy your tickets online before you go!

Casa Comalat
Believe it or not, Casa Comalat was not designed by Gaudí!
It was built by Salvador Valeri i Pupurull.
He built it from 1909 to 1911, and was clearly influenced by Gaudí.

I loved all the colorful tiles!!!
It is definitely worth going to check out.

Gothic Quarter
The Gothic Quarter is the center of the old city of Barcelona.
The quarter was built primarily in the late 19th and early 20th century, though several buildings date from medieval times.

There is TONS and TONS of graffiti all over Barcelona.
These were some of my favorites!
We also found the Barcelona Rubber Duck store while walking around the quarter!

Parc de la Ciutadella
The Parc de la Ciutadella is located on the northeastern edge of Ciutat Vella, Barcelona.

For decades following its creation in the mid-19th century, this park was the city’s only green space.

The grounds include the city zoo, the Parliament of Spain, a small lake, museums, and a large fountain designed by Josep Fontserè.
The young and then unknown architect Antoni Gaudí supported him with the design of the waterfall Cascada.

Arc de Triomf
The Arc de Triomf is a triumphal arch in the city of Barcelona in Catalonia, Spain.
It was built, by architect Josep Vilaseca i Casanovas, as the main access gate for the 1888 Barcelona World Fair.

The arch crosses over the wide central promenade of the Passeig de Lluís Companys, leading to the Ciutadella Park that now occupies the site of the world fair.

Temple of the Sacred Heart of Jesus
Temple of the Sacred Heart of Jesus is a Roman Catholic church and minor basilica located on the summit of Mount Tibidabo in Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain.

The building is the work of the Spanish architect Enric Sagnier and was completed by his son Josep Maria Sagnier i Vidal.
The construction of the church, dedicated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, lasted from 1902 to 1961.

The church is crowned by the enormous bronze statue of the Sacred Heart made by Josep Miret in 1950, replacing the original made by Frederic Marès in 1935, and destroyed the following year. The ascent from the crypt, passing through the church and ending at the sculpture, reflects the rise and the purification of the human condition by means of sacrifice and atonement.

The church is now surrounded by an amusement park.
I thought that was SO weird!

The views from the top are incredible.

It was a beautiful sunny day when we went to the church.
I just wish it hadn’t been so hazy!!

There is no charge to visit the church, but you have to pay 3€ to take the lift to the top.
We took a cab to the church. The hop-on-hop-off tour buses come here as well.
