Muddy Buddies, Puppy Chow, Reindeer Chow - whatever you call this, it is good stuff! My brother-in-law recently moved out to Colorado, and I was looking for a treat that would be good to mail to him. I knew I wanted to make a type of candy or snack mix and these Muddy Buddies popped in my mind. I haven't made Muddy Buddies in ages. I forgot how good this stuff is! What's not to like - peanut butter, chocolate, powdered sugar. I am going to make sure this is on our Christmas snack list from now on.
Muddy Buddies
(Printable Recipe)9 cups Corn Chex®, Rice Chex®, Wheat Chex® or Chocolate Chex® cereal (or combination)
1 cup semisweet chocolate chips
1/2 cup peanut butter
1/4 cup butter or margarine
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 1/2 cups powdered sugar
Into large bowl, measure cereal; set aside.
In 1-quart microwavable bowl, microwave chocolate chips, peanut butter and butter uncovered on High 1 minute; stir. Microwave about 30 seconds longer or until mixture can be stirred smooth. Stir in vanilla. Pour mixture over cereal, stirring until evenly coated. Pour into 2-gallon resealable food-storage plastic bag.
Add powdered sugar. Seal bag; shake until well coated. Spread on waxed paper to cool. Store in airtight container in refrigerator.

Love this stuff! :)
we love these at my house and yes they get called puppy chow. Some of the kids friends look funny when first asked if they would like some puppy chow
Now they ask if we can make some.
I forgot to say...
Love your blog!
I love this stuff:) It's so addictive!
That looks really good!
I've never tried these...but will this weekend! Does the cereal get completely covered with the peanut butter chocolate mixture? Thanks for sharing!
Seriously, I can't believe I've never made Muddy Buddies. I don't know what's taking me so long, but I'm feeling that this Christmas will be the year.
This stuff is seriously crack. I can't even keep it in my house!
LOL, yeah, Puppy Chow is what Brett and his girlfriend called it.
Using Crispix rather than Chex gives it a slightly airier but more substantial texture. (Somehow, that statement makes sense. Just trust me on this one.)
ADT - I will give it a try. I might brave the grocery store today and try it. Thanks for the tip!
The real way to elevate these to insanely good is to sub 1/2 the chocolate chips with butterscotch chips. A-MAZ-ING!
Aimee - that sounds amazing! I am going to try that next time I make these. Thanks!
I love how you say that this should be stored....There is no way if I make this that it would even get put into a storage container. My children would have this gone in about 12 minutes and the only reason it would take that long is because someone would have to stop for milk :)
Can't wait to try it out tomorrow.
Try substituting Golden Grahams for the cereal! You won't regret it!
