Disney Eats (What to Eat at Disney World)

I hope everyone had a fantastic Christmas!  Our holiday was very nice and relaxing.
I wanted to share some of the amazing food we ate on our recent trip to Disney World.  (If you follow me on twitter, you probably already saw some of this – I tweet a lot on vacation) We ate a TON, but we also walked over 41 miles in our 4 ½ days in the parks.
The first treat we had was this Carrot Cake Cookie from the Writer’s Stop in Hollywood Studios.
It is basically a HUGE carrot cake whoopie pie filled with a wonderful cream cheese icing.
I found out about this treat from the Disney Food Blog.  The Disney Food Blog is a great source for eating in Disney World and Disneyland.  I have found out about so many goodies that I would have never known about.  Make sure to check it out before you take a trip to Disney!
We went to Mickeys’ Very Merry Christmas Party on the first night of our trip. On our way back to the hotel we stopped off at the Main Street Bakery to check out the treats.
Turkey Leg Rice Krispie Treats
Mickey & Minnie Candy Apples
We saw these super cute Snowman Apples – going to have to try and recreate these at home next year!
Chicken Legs settled on this peanut butter chocolate rice krispie treat – it was good!!
The next day we headed over to Universal so I could go to the Wizarding World of Harry Potter.  It was amazing.  It looked like a scene out of the movies.
We shared a butter beer.  It was surprisingly good.  (Tasted like a buttery nipple shot)
We walked a ton and needed a Butterfinger Brownie to refuel before we headed back to the hotel.  It was great!  I envision a homemade version soon.
Dinner that night was at Via Napoli in Epcot.  We ate at their sister restaurant in NYC last year, and we were anxious to try out the place in Disney.
I loved the pizza ovens!
We started off with some arancini – SO good!
We split this pizza – we ate more than I care to admit.  It was really good.
We hit Animal Kingdom the next day.  The Safari & Everest are our favorite attractions!  Lunch was at Restaurantosaurus in DinoLand.  It was good, and they have free drink refills!!
Chicken Legs had the burger and fries.
I had the chicken nuggets.  They were really good and there were a ton of them!
Dessert was the famous homemade ice cream sandwich at Dino-Bite Snacks. It right outside of the Restaurantosaurus, where we ate for lunch.  According to the Disney Food Blog, there are only 5 places in Disney World to get a homemade ice cream sandwich.  It is worth it to find one of those places.
We shared it – it was HUGE!
We made reservations for lunch the next day at the Liberty Tree Tavern in Magic Kingdom.  I had read that their burger was one of the best in Disney World.  The burger is only available for lunch, so we had to check it out.
I got the bacon and cheese burger.
Chicken Legs went with the mushroom and swiss burger.
The burgers are huge.  We could have easily shared one.  They were definitely better than other burgers in the park.  They also have free drink refills!
The highlight of the meal was the Ooey Gooey Toffee Cake.  Best dessert we’ve had at Disney World, hands down!

After all that food for lunch, we did a lot of walking around Magic Kingdom and then headed over to Epcot.  We rode a few rides there and then headed over to check out the countries.

We snacked on some freshly made caramel popcorn in Germany.  SO good.  Get the small – it is more than enough.
Our last day in the parks, we hit all our favorite rides.  My very favorite ride is Tower of Terror in Hollywood Studios.  I could ride it all day long.
Since we were in Hollywood Studios, we hit up Starring Rolls for the Butterfinger Cupcake – still amazing.

We went over to Downtown Disney to check it out.
We saw these cute Minnie & Mickey Rice Krispie cakes at Goofy’s Candy Company.  I am going to order one for Chicken Legs next time we go to Disney.
We ate so many great things on our trip, but I still have several things on my “to eat list”.  I started a board on Pinterest to keep up with everything.  Let me know if I need to add anything to it.  We are always looking for new snacks and places to eat!
I also bought 4 Disney cookbooks.  There are tons of great recipes that I have bookmarked to try in the upcoming months!

  1. The Dole Whip Float w/ Pineapple Ice Cream at Magic Kingdom across from Swiss Family Treehouse. Hands down the absolute best thing you can get at Disney! My husband and I crave this all the time!! Should have gotten one every day we were there! Maybe next time! 🙂

  2. I just got back from my own trip to Disney World! I definitely have my favorite foods there, too!

I agree with several things on your list. The cupcakes at Starring Rolls are incredible. While one would've been plenty, we couldn't decide on a type, so we got three!

At Magic Kingdom, the Rice Krispie treats from the Main Street bakery = amazing. With or without the chocolate coating. It is our perfect treat for the trip home. We also like Tony's Town Square Italian restaurant. The Dole Whip is sold at a stand near Swiss Family Treehouse and Pirates. It was sold when we were there, and is totally worth it! Finally, Sleep Hollow, across from Ye Ole Christmas Shoppe has the most amazing waffle sandwiches! I highly recommend the Nutella/fruit… but the chicken one looks delicious as well. You have to go early though, because the stop selling all but the Nutella one at 5.

Hollywood Studios: 50s Prime Time Cafe is easily the best restaurant I've tried there. Their fried chicken is surprisingly delicious for "FL fried chicken," and they give you half a hen! I ate there for under $20, which is amazing for Disney.

Epcot: This year, we ate around the world at all of the cheap/fast places. These were my highlights. Boulangerie Patisserie in France is always on my must do list! I have yet to be disappointed there. We got a pretzel in Germany at Sommerfest, which my friend said was the best she's ever had. Kringla Bakeri Of Kafe in Norway was the surprise find. My friend and I split a lefse (like a potato pancake and crepe had a baby) and a cloudberry horn.

One last thing for the longest blog comment of all time. You MUST try Boma: A Taste of Africa at Animal Kingdom Lodge. It is an all you can eat buffet, and while it is a bit pricey ($35-$40 at dinner), it is worth it to splurge. While I recommend almost everything they serve, you really need to try their Zebra Domes (a Kahlua/coffee flavored dark and white chocolate ganache geletin concoction). I have literally had dreams about these. So good!

  3. In that first picture where you have a hold of D Duck's wing, I pictured a 'thought bubble' of you saying, "I know I'm PlainChicken but I'm going to grill this sucker up!"

  4. I am so jealous you went to Disney over the holidays. I love the feeling you get when you walk into those type of parks. I am glad you had a good time, and I look forward to seeing future posts on Disney's recipes!

  5. Katherine – you are the second person to recommend O'hanas. It is on my list for next time. We don't usually eat at really "nice" places for dinner because we are usually disappointed too. To be honest, one of the best things I ate for dinner was a corn dog at the park!

  6. We went to Disney World two years ago, and the thing I was LEAST impressed with was the food. I was so disappointed! We went to all the restaurants that our friends (Disney veterans, one and all) recommended … not a one of which is on your list. Ha! The best meal we had was at O'hanas at the Polynesian, and I have to say that it was excellent. But all the rest of the food was completely unremarkable to me.

With the prices as high as they were (we did the mid-level meal plan), I expected much, much more. When we return, I'll be coming back to this post for recommendations! 🙂

  7. no wonder I love your blog, we love the same food! That pizza from Via Napoli is my absolute to die for favorite! I hate to admit but I usually eat a whole one, but its amazing and your on vacation so why not!

  8. I had a friend who worked at Disney as a tour guide in MGM. She said that her very favorite treat was the pineapple Dole Whip. That was a while ago, but she said there was only one place that sold them and they were only available in the summer and people would fight over them.

  9. That is a LOT of walking! Wow! The eats & treats look wonderful – especially all of those mickey shaped chocolate & PB bites – wow!

  10. This all looks sooo good. I want to go to Harry Potter soooo bad. Glad you had a great time, at least with food 😉
