Football Twinkie Pops

Aren't these the best football dessert ever?!  These were inspired by the very talented Kristan at Confessions of a Cookbook Queen.  She posted some super cute Halloween Twinkie Pops a few weeks ago, and I immediately thought of making some Football Twinkie Pops.  These pops couldn't be easier to make and they require no baking!  I think they turned out super cute.   Chicken Legs did a quality control check for me and said they tasted great.  He really liked the chocolate on the outside.  They reminded him of a ding dong cake.  These would be perfect for a birthday party, football team party and, most of all, tailgating!

Football Twinkie Pops
(Printable Recipe)

Twinkies
6-inch cookie sticks
Chocolate Almond Bark or Chocolate Candy Melts

Icing
2 cups powdered sugar
3 Tbsp light corn syrup
1-2 Tbsp milk
1/2 tsp almond extract

Unwrap Twinkies.  Melt chocolate according to package directions.  Dip cookie stick 1/3 of the way into the melted chocolate.  Push stick into center of the end of the Twinkie.  Place on a wax paper lined cookie sheet.  Repeat with remaining Twinkies.  Freeze for 15 minutes.

Dip the twinkies into melted chocolate, coating fully.  Shake off excess and place on wax paper lined cookie sheet.  Repeat with remaining Twinkies.  Freeze for 10 minutes.

Prepare icing.  Mix together powdered sugar, corn syrup, almond extract and 1 Tbsp of milk.  Add more milk if needed.  You want the icing thick enough to pipe on the Twinkies.  Fill a piping bag with icing and use tip #3 to pipe football laces and tip #104 to pipe stripes.  Allow icing to set before serving.

  4. Creative twinkie pops like that would definitely be a great addition to the menu of our regular catering company sydney. The best part is, the popsicle itself can be molded into just about any shape needed.
