10 things you MUST EAT in Paris! Pin this for a fabulous list of places to eat. Includes addresses and phone numbers so you can easily find them on your trip.
Today I'm sharing my favorite foods from my recent trip to Paris with Amanda, Lauren and Sommer. We ate a TON, as you expect 4 food bloggers to do on a trip.

I've narrowed it down to 10. It was hard, but I did it!
I got SO hungry writing this post. I told Chicken Legs that we MUST go back to Paris soon!

I have included links to all my favorites so you can check them out when you are in Paris.

1. Croissants
Croissants at Cafe Saint Regis in Paris - a must on your next trip!
You can't go to Paris without having at least one croissant.

2. Hot Chocolate
Hot Chocolate and Croissant from Les Deux Magots in Paris
Hot Chocolate in Paris is a real treat!
It is more like drinking melted chocolate as opposed to a chocolate and cream mixture here in The States.
The hot collocate in Paris has a lot more chocolate and a lot less cream (if any).

Hot Chocolate and Croissant from Cafe Saint Regis in Paris - incredible!
My standard breakfast was a croissant and a cup of hot chocolate.

We tried hot chocolate at several places. My favorites were at Cafe Saint Regis and Les Deux Magots.

We also ate some delicious food at both places and loved it.

3. Kouign Amann
Kouign Amann from Ladurée in Paris - caramelized sugary croissants - a MUST in Paris!
A what? Kouign Amann is a round crusty cake, made with bread dough containing layers of butter and sugar folded in, similar in fashion to croissant. The resulting cake is slowly baked until the butter puffs up the dough and the sugar caramelizes.

Or simply - amazing!

Kouign Amann from Maison Georges Larnicol in Paris - caramelized sugary croissants - a MUST in Paris!
We tried several Kouign Amann and our two favorites were at Ladurée and Maison Georges Larnicol.
Maison Georges Larnicol kouign amann are smaller and they have lots of different flavors - I loved them all! I especially loved the orange and almond ones.

4. Macarons
Pierre Hermé macarons in Paris - the creme brûlée were my favorite!
Macarons are a must in Paris.
Everyone has an opinion as to which famous bakery has the best.
To be honest, they are all very good in Paris.
Our two favorites were Pierre Hermé and Ladurée.

Pierre Hermé has more exotic, adventurous flavors.
Ladurée is more main stream, classic flavors.

Ladurée macarons - a MUST when in Paris! My favorite was the salted caramel. Get a box and sample them all!
We loved different ones from each place.
My favorite from Pierre Hermé was the creme brûlée. (My favorite overall as well)

5. Napoleon Dessert
Napoleon dessert at Restaurant Le Duc in Paris - the most amazing dessert in Paris! A MUST!

This Napoleon was one of the best desserts I had in Paris.
A Napoleon is pastry creme layered between puff pasty sheets.
I literally inhaled this! It was amazing!
It rivaled my all-time favorite Kreme Cake in Budapest.

We had the Napoleon after an amazing meal at Restaurant Le Duc.
Dinner at Restaurant Le Duc in Paris - the best seafood I've ever eaten. Add it to your list of places to eat in Paris.
Le Duc is a seafood restaurant and one of the best in Paris.
All the food was out of this world delicious. Best seafood we've ever eaten!

Make sure to save room for that Napoleon - I'm still thinking about it!

A Croque Monsieur is my go-to French food.
You can't go wrong with a delicious ham and cheese sandwich.
I ate my fair share of Croque Monsieur sandwiches in Paris, and my favorite Croque was at Les Deux Magots.
All the bistro's serve Croque Monsieur and Croque Madames for breakfast and lunch.

8. Pizza
Caprese Pizza from La Braciola in Paris. Who knew you could find amazing pizza in Paris. This is a MUST on your trip. Not a tourist place. One of the best meals we had in Paris.
Pizza in Paris? YES!!!
We found the best pizza in a tiny restaurant in Paris, La Braciola.
It is definitely not a tourist place. No one spoke English!
We did a lot of pointing and gesturing. LOL!

The pizza was Neapolitan style and some of the best I've had.
My favorite pizza was the caprese pizza - can't beat Mozzarella di Bufala.
This was a nice break from all the French food we had eaten.
It also doesn't hurt that pizza is my absolute favorite food!
I was a happy, happy camper at this lunch!

9. Praline Brioche
Pink Brioche in Paris - the pink is sugar coated hazelnuts. This bread is AMAZING! A MUST on your next Paris trip!
This Praline Brioche was my favorite!!
The pink things are chocolate covered hazelnuts. The pink is just sugar coating the nuts.

This is a MUST! We stumbled upon this amazing treat on our way to the Eiffel Tower.
I loved everything about this bread. I could have eaten a giant loaf myself.
Someone in the US needs to make this ASAP so I can buy it all the time!

Get this to snack on while you are in Paris. You won't be disappointed!

10. Ice Cream
Vanilla and Salted Caramel Ice Cream from the famous Berthillon ice cream shop in Paris. A MUST on your next trip to Paris.
Our apartment was right next to the most famous ice cream shop in Paris - Berthillon.
People were lined up at all hours of the day.
Yes, the ice cream is that good!!

If you don't want to wait in line, no worries!
Berthillon is served all over Paris.
There were about 5 places within 2 or 3 blocks of the famous location to get the same exact ice cream.
We got it once at the famous location and then went to the other locations for our afternoon pick me up.

I loved their vanilla and salted caramel ice cream.
Wishing they sold this at the grocery store in The States!

  1. For me, in Paris you must eat Steak. They know Steak, they know how you should have it cooked (don't bother asking, it will come how the chef thinks it should be cooked. They will ask you but this is just for show.) Go with it. The reason I eat rare or medium rare steak now is because I ate it in Paris at the age of 15.

  2. Bonjour Stephanie! I just posted this on my 8th grade French class website! They will love the photos. I am so glad that you loved Paris. What's not to love?? My favorite to try when I am there is steak-frites. I am always on the lookout for a new restaurant to try for a good steak when I go to Paris. Le Café du Commerce is good, as well as a restaurant I discovered thanks to Ann Mah-- Le Mistral. Not a tourist spot and really good. You must try their Aligot- a mashed potato-cheese concoction that is to die for. Maybe the promise of steak and potatoes will get Chicken Legs there!!

    1. Amanda was telling us about Aligot, but we never got a chance to eat it. We saw a street vendor making it for a festival and it looked amazing. It is on my list for next time.

Look at this recipe, it discusses your praline candies. Love your blog!!! Keep up the great writing.

  4. The next time you go to Paris, try Le Soufflé. It a tiny quaint restaurant off the beaten track. That's all they make. You order your dessert soufflé when you arrive. Superb! Between that and the salted caramel macaroons at Le
    Laudree....think about them often.

  5. When I first saw the hot chocolate pic the first thing I thought was hmmm that looks like chocolate soup lol. The way you described it, it sounds like melting a Hershey bar in a cup of hot milk....actually that sounds really good LOL. I had to google kouign amann and I found out that Trader Joe's carries it...I'm sure it isn't as good as what you got in Paris but I doubt I will ever get the privilege of going there so I may just have to scoot over to TJs and check it out lol.

  6. I agree with the praline brioche. it's fabulousssssssssss. It's the best brioche ever.
Every time I go to Paris, even for a day, I have to buy one.

  7. Laduree- all pastries and macaroons were out of this world!
