It is with a heavy heart that have to announce that Grandpa Felix has crossed over The Rainbow Bridge.

Felix’s health had been deteriorating over the past year. He had stopped grooming and lost a lot of weight. He started vomiting up blood last week. We took him to the vet and she found a mass near his stomach. We knew it was time to let him go.

We adopted Felix from Kitty Kat Haven & Rescue on June 1, 2019. Felix was very sad at the Haven. He didn’t really eat or get up from his bed. I read about Felix on Facebook and convinced Chicken Legs to go visit him.

We went to Kitty Kat Haven to visit Felix. As soon as Chicken Legs said his name, Felix jumped up and let Chicken Legs hold him. The ladies at the Haven had never seen Felix move! They almost cried. We spent some time with Felix and finalized the adoption. The volunteers at the Haven brought in a pet carrier and Felix walked right in and sat down. He was ready to come home with us!

Such a regal boy.

I miss his sweet face asking to steal my office chair for a nap.

We gave Felix the nickname Grandpa because he treated the kittens like his own. He loved them to death. Mango adored him.

Best buds – they look like twins.

Felix’s favorite place was outside. He loved the heat and the fresh catnip.

During the pandemic, he even became an adventure cat!

Felix had the MOST expressive facial expressions. You knew exactly what he was thinking by looking at his pretty green eyes.

While it might look like he hated his lion cut, he actually LOVED it! He pranced around like the king of the jungle! Grandpa just hated pictures!

Grandpa loved his catnip banana. He would roll around on the floor and rub his face on it.

We are all adjusting to our new normal. Mango keeps waiting for Grandpa to come downstairs in the morning for breakfast. Mack isn’t sleeping on the blankets on the sofa – he misses his nap buddy. The babies have never lived without him.

1, 465 days wasn’t enough days with this sweet boy.

  1. So sorry to hear about Grandpa Felix. I have been following Meow Mondays for several years and like you have always had orange kitties. Our baby boy, BacYard, crossed over the Rainbow Bridge last year and there hasn’t been a day I haven’t thought of him. Know in your heart what a wonderful life Granda Felix had thanks to you and Chicken Legs! My sincere condolences and keep posting Meow Monday!

  2. We lost our “Grandpa” Patches a little over a week ago. I cried when I saw sweet Felix passed. Patches reminded me so much of Felix. He came to us last July, showing up in our barn. We brought him in the house and he never looked back. He had only one eye, was mostly deaf, and most of his hair missing from flea allergy. He wouldn’t groom much either. After many trips to the vets, lots of love, and special food he became a very happy old man. He slept between me and my husband. We are heartbroken. Patches and Felix are hanging out together now in Kitty Heaven!

  3. Hi Steph,
Saddened at the loss of Grandpa Felix. I look forward to Meow Monday every week, and when I read that Felix had passed, I felt so bad. My first cat was a marmalade who passed away from FIP at the age of 3. I was heartbroken, and always had a special fondness for cats that color. Even though they’re not physically with us, their presence will always be there. My heart goes out to you, but I still look forward to the antics of Mack and Mango, and of course, your wonderful recipes!

  4. I, too, am so deeply sorry for your loss. He was definitely a class act and his own man. Looked forward to Monday mornings to see how your kitties were doing. I lost a cool guy recently and while sorry not surprised at Grandpa’s passing. Blessings to yours and mine.

  5. I’m so incredibly sorry for your loss of Grandpa Felix. He usually looked grumpy in the pictures, but you could tell he was really a sweetie. I love your Meow Mondays and will miss seeing his sweet face. Thinking of you all ❤️

  6. I remember when you got that sweet boy, and how happy I was that you adopted an older cat, and gave him such a wonderful life. He adored y’all and had his happiest years with you. It’s always so awful to say goodbye, I’m so sorry.

  7. So sorry for your loss. I look forward to Meow Mondays and will miss Grandpa Felix. He was a special kitty and I am sad he is gone.

  8. Oh dear. I remember when you got him – it was such a surprise when he clicked in such a hurry with your husband. We will all miss him.
But happy to know that he didn’t appear to be miserably sick for very long.
Again, he will surely be missed –

  9. So sorry for the loss of your sweet, majestic Grandpa Felix. What a handsome boy he was, and those beautiful green eyes! So much love between him, Mack and Mango in those pictures, you just know Grandpa Felix knew how loved and wanted he was. You and Chicken Legs made his senior years truly blessed. God bless you, Chicken Legs, Mack and Mango, and may He comfort you in this difficult time. Sending love and prayers your way.

  10. I teared up reading this. My daughter and I would look forward to Meow Monday and would laugh and “ahhh” while reading them (I also love your recipes and are some of my favorites). Thank you Grandpa Felix for the smiles and few pictures with your eyes open to see those green beauties.
Lots of love to you Stephanie, your family and Miss Mango and Mack.

  11. I am so sorry to read this about Grandpa Felix. I hope it gives you comfort to remember what a good life you he had in his last years.

  12. I am soooo sorry to hear about Grandpa Felix. I will miss seeing his beautiful face every week. I am crying with you and everyone else. Losing our fur babies is always so hard but we know it is for the best. I have lost 3 over the past 18 years with the most recent in January so reading about Felix is extra hard. You can take comfort in knowing that you gave him the best years of his life and he went to kitty heaven knowing that he was loved. Sending hugs your way.

  13. A quote that helped me when we had to put down our beloved 19-year-old Callie last December: Grief is the price we pay for love, and it is worth it a million times over. I am crying with you today. It is always hard. So glad you still have Mack and Mango. We now have Peaches and Chewy that we adopted from the local shelter to love on.

  14. So sorry to hear of your loss. It is the same as losing a family member. Thank you for the background of how you adopted Grandpa.

  15. I am so sorry about Grandpa Felix. I look forward to your post every Monday. He took the sweetest pics. Thank you for giving him a loving home! Hug Mack and Mango extra tight tonight. I can’t even begin to imagine how much they are missing him.😿🙏🏼😿
