It’s Football Friday! This is a HUGE weekend in college football. I am packed and ready to head down to the game bright and early tomorrow morning!
Burgers are great tailgating food, but sometimes it isn’t convienent to grill burgers. Maybe you don’t have a grill to tote to the parking lot, or you just don’t want to deal with the hassle of it all. We’ve grilled burgers twice this year, and it is a lot of work. This recipe will satisfy your burger craving without the grill. Simply mix up the hamburger meat, roll it up in some refrigerated pizza dough and bake. Couldn’t be simpler or tastier!!
Bacon Cheeseburger Pinwheels
ingredients:
-
1 lb lean hamburger
-
3 Tbsp tomato juice
-
1 egg
-
¼ cup French fried onions, crushed
-
4 strips bacon, cooked and finely chopped
-
¾ cup shredded cheddar cheese
-
1 can refrigerated pizza dough
instructions:
-
Preheat oven to 425ĀŗF.
-
In a large bowl, combine first 6 ingredients. Roll the pizza dough into a 9×15 rectangle and top with hamburger mixture. Spread the hamburger evenly over the dough. Starting with the long side, roll up into a log. Slice into 16 pinwheels and place on baking sheet.
- Bake 15-18 minutes, or until golden brown. Serve with your favorite dipping sauce – Ranch, BBQ, A-1, etc.
Can these be frozen after cooking?
I think that would be fine
I wondered the same thing, do you cook the meat first? It seems so strange to me not to… but I will try it! Actually I have some hamburger meat already cooked and crumbled and I am going to try it with that and croissant rolls since that is what I have on hand. What a fun recipe! Thanks so much!!!
I saw the thumbnail and thought they were cinnamon rolls:) These look wonderful and sound so delicious!
Stephanie, these look wonderful! What a great idea. Have fun tailgaiting/gaming/winning.
Alexis asked, "Are those cinnamon rolls?"
Nope, cheeseburger rolls! I bet they are a huge hit at tailgates.
I bet you are rooting for the lowly Volunteers this weekend š
What a unique recipe. I love it! I can't wait to try it with my own homemade pizza dough.
@The Dornons – you don't cook the meat first. You put in on the dough raw. It cooks with the dough. It works – I promise!
May be a silly question, but you cook the meat first, right? – Sounds so good!
Just bought the stuff to make these tomorrow! Thanks! Go Mississippi State!
YUM, YUM, YUM! I think these may be on the agenda for this weekend!
I make a similar recipe from Kraft. It's called cheeseburger roll up. Your recipe looks equally good. I bet the addition of those crispy onions really put it over the top!
Happy Friday!

I bet these fly off the tail gate!
These look like a perfect tailgating food and I'm also looking forward to tomorrows game – from my easy chair of course.
I like!
Nice shortcut recipe. š
