I love to make homemade food gifts for the holidays. Last year I made some delicious Christmas Spice Tea Mix. I gave it as gifts to my co-workers, and they all loved it. This year, I am making this Peppermint Hot Chocolate Mix. The mix tastes great. It has the perfect kiss of peppermint in every sip. I gave some away at Thanksgiving and everyone gave it two thumbs up.
How to Make Homemade Peppermint Hot Chocolate Mix
This hot chocolate mix is super easy to make. Start by crushing some candy canes or peppermint candies. I usually crush them in the food processor. If you don’t have a food processor, put the candy in a ziplock bag and use a meat mallet or rolling pin to smash the candy.
Once the candy canes are crushed and powdered milk, powdered sugar, cocoa powder, and cornstarch. Whisk until thoroughly combined. Transfer the mix to mason jars or ziplock bags.

If you don’t want to give this Homemade Peppermint Hot Chocolate Mix away as gifts, you can whip up a large batch of hot chocolate and keep it warm in the slow cooker. You would need one batch of hot chocolate mix and about 15-½ cups of milk or water. Perfect for a crowd! Try spiking the hot chocolate with some Bailey’s or Rumchata – YUM!

I have finally found a great recipe. One question though, can I add the peppermint to the mug( lime a peppermint stick) or is it just best to crush and add to the mix? Thank you
You can do both.
This is great. My youngest daughter, 12, is making this mix for our older two daughters, 16, 20. They'll love it.
Thanks for sharing!
Thanks! Sorry- just reread the top part where it says that…
Ashley – it makes 5 1/2 cups of mix.
How much does this make? Enough for one jar?
I made this (with a little more sugar) in tiny individual jars for my co workers. Super fun and fast! Thanks for sharing!
Perfect for the gift baskets I'm making for the girls at work 🙂
I just learned how to make homemade marshmallows, how perfect they'd be with this! (and you can get canning jars at Walmart or Agri-Supply for $9 a dozen)
I'd like this one a lot better than spice tea, cause I like my tea cold.
Sounds very, very good.
How many followers do you have? Because I LOVE the food you post on your blog! We made the beans and ham last night and it was AMAZING. And it was SO SIMPLE, and SO CHEAP. You can tell how excited I am, haha, but all of the caps. 😀 Anyhow, thanks for posting something new–it reminded me to thank you for yummy food. 🙂
