Pin This RecipeEasy Boozy Milkshake
Bushwackers are our all-time favorite cocktail. Whenever we see a Bushwacker on the menu we order it. What is a Bushwacker? It is basically an adult milkshake with lots of liquor. It was invented in 1975 at The Ship’s Store & Sapphire Pub in St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands. Now, you can find them everywhere from Nashville to Gulf Shores and everywhere in between.
Every restaurant/bar has its own special recipe. Today I am sharing the ultimate Bushwacker recipe from The Flora-Bama in Pensacola, Florida. The Flora-Bama is famous for its Bushwackers. One sip and you will know why! SOOOOO good! These go down way too easily, so be careful not to have too many!
How to Make the Flora-Bama Bushwacker
This cocktail is very easy to make. Fill a blender halfway with ice. Add rum, spiced rum, Kahlua coffee liqueur, amaretto, dark creme de cacao. Finally, add some vanilla ice cream and blend. Add a splash of milk if the mixture is too thick. Pour the mixture into cups and garnish with a maraschino cherry.
- You can use any flavor of ice cream that you prefer. Give this a try with chocolate – so good!
- This is also delicious with a banana thrown into the blender.
- Can use light or dark rum.
- We usually double the alcohol in the drink. Totally up to you.
- Some bars/restaurants drizzle the cup with chocolate syrup before adding the milkshake.
- Feel free to top the drink with a boozy floater. We like a shot of Rumplemintz on top. Some places top the cocktail with 151 Rum.

I’d like to make this for my daughters wedding reception. We have a 3 gallon daiquiri machine. How do I make that much at one time? Thanks
OMG! I was so excited to see this recipe. My family has beautiful memories of vacations on the Gulf Shores and an evening or two at Flora-Bama. This was my mother-in-law’s favorite and our favorite watching her drink it. Thank you so much for posting this. It will be a staple when my family visits us at our beach house! I can’t wait to make it.
Enjoy!
