Meow Monday – Sherbert

Last Thursday my heart shattered into a million pieces. My sweet Sherbert went to heaven. We found out the week before that she had kidney failure. She was in the hospital and improving, but she couldn’t go on any longer. She was ready to go see Marmalade and her sister, Pumpkin.

We adopted Sherbert and her sister, Pumpkin, in the Fall of 2000. They had been abandoned on the side of the interstate. Someone brought them to the vets office and Chicken Legs insisted we adopt them.

Sherbert had lots of nicknames, as most pets do. Bert, Bertie Bert, Sherbie, Turbo, Turbo Sherbo, Turbie, Bertie B, Sweet B, Sweet Pea, B B, just to name a few.

She loved to sit in my lap. She purred so loud. She was a little purr-colator.

She didn’t like to be held. She turned into the tasmanian devil if you attempted to pick her up.

She was fast as lightning. Hence the nickname, Turbo.

She loved to roll around on the rugs.  She loved burlap – went absolutely crazy rubbing all over it.

She always got in my overnight bag when I was packing.

She would stand up to check things out.

She LOVED to get in drawers.

She could jump from the floor to the top of Chicken Legs’ dresser – about 5 feet.

She loved to sit in boxes.

She spent most of her days during the winter in front of the heater.

Her favorite human food was ham and cheez-its. I left my ham sandwich unattended one day and she stole the ham out of it and ate it! I had to start making a plate of ham for her at lunch.

Sherbert was always special to me. She went through a lot in her short life and was a tough little cookie.
I had almost 14 wonderful years with Sherbert. She was my everything. I loved her more than anything in this world.
It will be strange going into the bedroom and not seeing her sleeping on the bed. I will miss her meowing at me, sleeping by my side and petting her.
She has only been gone a few days, but we all miss her tremendously.
 “We’re the best ones.”

  1. I am so sorry to hear about Sherbert. I always look through the pictures on Meow Mondays and smile because they are too cute. At least we all got to meet her.

  2. I am so sorry for your loss of Sweet Sherbert. I lost my cat to kidney failure just a couple years ago. I totally understand how you feel. I loved all your photos & the sweet story about her. They are always in our heart. Blessings you you.

  3. I'm feeling for you! We lost our black and gray tabby, Miss Kitty, last year (age 16) and our precious orange tabby, Stewart, just this past January (age 15). I'm so very, very sorry for your loss. Give Jack and Fluffy extra scritches!

  4. She'll always be with you, always. If Jack and Fluffy seem like they're playing with someone that's not there it's her. Positive vibes coming you and your family's way in hopes that they help your heart heal faster.

  5. So sorry for your loss of sweet Sherbert! My sweet Maggie has been gone for almost two years now and I still miss her every day. Praying for you!

  6. Aw, I was out and am just now reading this. It's Ramona. I changed my google+ I.D.

I'm so sorry. She had a good home and was well loved. She could not have asked for more that that.

  7. I'm so sorry to hear this. We lost a sweet 14 year old kitty a couple of weeks ago. Kidney failure as well. She passed while I was on a business trip, so I never got to say goodbye. 🙁 Our dog has finally stopped searching the house for her. That totally broke my heart.

  9. I am so sorry:( I can tell you guys really loved her, and based on those photos it looks like she had an incredibly happy life with a great family, which is more than any cat can hope for:) rip Sherbert you won't be forgotten

  10. I know this will sound contrite, but I feel your pain. I lost my 19 yr old male tabby, Cookie on July 5, 2013. After all the poor guy went though thoughout his long and wonderful life, bone cancer left me to make the decision I had always dreaded. I hope time and great memories will heal you. I'm still waiting for it to happen for me. RIP Sherbert. Peace.

  11. I'm so sorry about Sherbert! She looks almost exactly like our newest to us cat, Rocky, whom we almost lost as well to kidney failure. He was depressed from the death of his mom (my mil) and stopped eating. It took a lot of loving and cuddles to get him happy and eating again.

  12. Ohhh, sweet Bert. I'm so, so sorry. I know you loved her so very much, and it is so very hard to lose a pet. We've lost two cats, and it's just heartbreaking. I remember writing the blog posts with tears running down my cheeks as I typed them. I pictured you doing the same. Sweet friend, hugs to you and Tadd. Love you both.

  13. I am so sorry about Sherbert! I love seeing her pics. She really had a great personality. I know you are going to miss her like crazy. Hugs!
