We love sausage balls at our house and these Pimento Cheese Sausage Balls are the BEST!!! My famous Cream Cheese Sausage Balls loaded with pimento cheese. I could seriously eat the whole batch myself. These are perfect for parties, picnics, cookouts, and tailgating this Fall! Heck, we’ve even eaten these for dinner. Cocktails & appetizers are always a good idea!
How to Make Sausage Balls
These Pimento Cheese Sausage Balls are super easy to make. The secret to making sausage balls is to use your KitchenAid stand mixer. The mixer gets all of the ingredients incorporated and keeps your hands from getting so dirty!
There are only 4 simple ingredients in these sausage balls. Sausage, cream cheese, Bisquick, and pimento cheese. I used a roll of regular Jimmy Dean sausage. For the pimento cheese, I highly recommend the Palmetto brand. It is just like homemade and works great in these sausage balls. If you want to kick these up a notch, use a roll of hot sausage and jalapeño pimento cheese. YUM!
Can You Freeze Sausage Balls?
You can make these sausage balls ahead of time and freeze unbaked for a quick snack later. Mix the sausage balls and roll them into balls. Place on a baking sheet and pop in the freezer for a couple of hours. Place the frozen sausage balls in a freezer ziplock bag and keep in the freezer until you are ready to bake. You can bake the sausage balls frozen. Simply add a few minutes to the baking time.
These Pimento Cheese Sausage Balls are great for parties. They taste great hot out of the oven or at room temperature. If you are transporting these to a picnic, BBQ or tailgate, pack the sausage balls in a foil pan and pop them on the grill for a minute to reheat.
These sausage balls are great plain, but feel free to serve them with a side of Ranch dressing. YUM! You could also whip up a batch of Jalapeño Ranch Dip for dipping too.

Entirely up to you
Can’t wait to try. Who doesn’t love pimento cheese? Not anyone from the South. It’s got to be great.
oh my goodness! These are wonderful. The pimento cheese makes all the difference. I also made these Gluten free.
I thought you had to cook the meat before making the balls. Will it get cooked in the middle of the ball.
You do NOT cook the sausage before making the balls.
HI, can you replace with Gluten Free Bisquick and get the same result.
I’ve never made this with gluten-free Bisquick, so I can not say. If you have had success with gluten-free Bisquick in other recipes, I would try it.
I cant find pimento cheese yet? Is it in the refrigerated section with other cheeses?
It’s in the refrigerator section. Usually with the sour cream and cottage cheese. At least in our grocery stores that’s where it is.
Try the specialty foods usually by the deli
What’s the green garnish sprinkled on the sausage balls in your picture?
dried parsley
I was wondering that too…. If I add that how much would I add
Any changes and modifications to the recipe would be up to you.
Trying these tonight! I have them in the oven. Thanks, Melva!
They were a hit my family loved them.
Hello! I just came across this recipe and it sounds amazing! Planning on making for game day tomorrow using jalapeno pimento cheese … any suggestions on a dipping sauce to compliment this?
This Jalapeno Ranch Dip would be good: https://www.plainchicken.com/jalapeno-ranch-dip/
Blue cheese dressing
Do you have to keep these in the fridge after you serve them , how long can any leftovers be left out out in closed closed container.
They would be fine for several hours on the countertop.
I just found your site! I have sent to sister in law and my daughter. No I haven’t fixed one meal yet BUT I can’t wait to do so. I have already printed off one. I just can’t stop going over all the good food. Thanks for the hard work. Most of all thanks for sharing!!
You are the highlight of my week when Plain Chicken comes out. I have tried many of your recipes and have loved them. Will be trying a couple of these soon. Thank you
Thank you, Melva!
The recipe calls for 4 oz of cream cheese, but in your notes, you said to use 3/4 of a package. 4 oz is half a normal size block of cream cheese. What am I supposed to use?
That is a typo – use 1/2 the package
Haha, I didn’t read closely enough and used a whole block of cream cheese…..didn’t seem to matter. They didn’t spread out or taste a whole lot different . Hope this helps!
