The Hamilton
We arrived in DC really, really late thanks to an 8 hour flight delay.
We were starving! Luckily, The Hamilton was right next to our hotel and it was open late.
We started with some sushi.

The Fire Dragon Roll was to-die-for!!

Next we split a small order of the Short Rib Pasta.

For our entree, we shared the Smoked BBQ Bone-In Porkchop.

It was served over creamy cheddar grits, with Kansas City style BBQ sauce, Swiss chard, and crispy onions. Seriously delicious!!!

WE, The Pizza
We stopped in for a quick bite at We, the Pizza after our Capitol tour.
OMG! It was really good!!
We tried several slices.
Capitol Supreme – Tomato Sauce, Mozzarella, Pepperoni, Sausage, Green Peppers, Mushrooms, Onions
I loved The Butcher’s Block – Tomato Sauce, Mozzarella, Pepperoni, Sausage, Ham, Applewood Smoked Bacon

Next we tried a slice of the Forest Shroomin’ Pie iwth
Wild Forest Mushrooms, Truffles, Mozz, Fresh Thyme, Parmesan.
We also snagged a slice of the classic cheese. YUM!
There was a steady stream of people for lunch when we were there.
The line moves quickly. There is seating at the entrance and upstairs.
There are even a few seats outside.
We both LOVED We, the Pizza!

Old Ebbitt Grill
Old Ebbitt Grill came highly recommended by everyone.
You will most definitely need a reservation. It was PACKED for dinner.
We started with a yummy Bloody Mary.

Next up we had the Crab & Artichoke Dip.

Chicken Legs indulged in a few fresh oysters.

For our entrees, Chicken Legs got the Caesar Salad with Tuna.
He loved it.

I got one of the house specialities – Cannelloni di Casa.
Ricotta, spinach, and Mortadella-stuffed pasta in a cream sauce.

For dessert we got the Bourbon Walnut Pie –
chocolate cookie batter, walnut and bourbon pie served warm with vanilla ice cream.

We also couldn’t pass up the Peanut Butter Pie – roasted peanut-chocolate chip crust filled with peanut butter mousse. TO-DIE-FOR!

Astro Doughnuts & Fried Chicken
If you are going to DC, you MUST stop in at Astro Doughnuts!
OMG! SO good!!
This was the special Cherry Blossom Festival doughnut.
It was filled with cherry.

Our favorite was the Creme Brûlée – it was crunchy on the outside and had a yummy cream on the inside.

I also couldn’t pass up the fried chicken biscuit with honey butter and hot sauce.
YUM! I want one of these RIGHT NOW!!!
Astro Doughnuts is a takeaway place. There are a couple of tables outside, but there is only the food counter on the inside.
We got the food and walked back to the hotel to eat breakfast.

Good Stuff Eatery
We ate lunch at Good Stuff Eatery. It was surprisingly good.
Chicken Legs said it was the best burger he’s ever eaten. He’s eaten a lot of burgers, so that says a lot!
Chicken Legs got Spike’s Sunnyside – Dairy Fresh Cheese, Applewood Bacon & A Farm Fresh Fried Egg On A Brioche Bun With Good Stuff Sauce.

I got Colletti’s Smokehouse – Applewood Bacon, Sharp Vermont Cheddar Fried Vidalia Onion Rings With Chipotle BBQ Sauce. I ate the whole thing! SO good!
We also shared an order of fries. They were delicious!
We wanted to go back again before we left, but we didn’t have time.
They also make yummy milkshakes. We didn’t get one on this trip – next time!!!
If you are looking for an amazing burger near the Capitol, walk a few blocks over to Good Stuff Eatery. I promise you won’t regret it!!

Round Robin Bar
We stopped in at the Willard for a drink at The Round Robin Bar.
The Round Robin Bar has been a lively meeting place for Washington, D.C.’s political and social elite since Abraham Lincoln.

Chicken Legs got their signature drink – The Henry Clay Mint Julep.
Henry Clay introduced the Mint Julep to Washington DC.
The bar was beautiful! We are thinking of staying at The Willard next time we go to DC.

Charlie Palmer Steak
My favorite dinner was at Charlie Palmer Steak.
It was one of the best meals we ever eaten!!
To start the meal, they brought out some salmon.

We opted to sit at a table in the bar and ordered the meatballs off the bar menu.

For our main course, Chicken Legs got the Mishima Reserve Wagyu Strip Steak “Manhattan Cut”.
He said it was one of the best steaks he’s ever eaten.

He also got a side of mushrooms.

I got the filet. It was outstanding! Cooked to perfection!
For my side dish, I got the New Potato and Aged Cheddar Gratin.
Heaven! I wanted to face plant in the dish.
It took everything I had to share with Chicken Legs.
Charlie Palmer is a real treat, and I highly recommend it!
It is right next to the Capitol. You are very likely to see some political movers and shakers.

Lincoln’s Waffle Shop
We started our last full day at Lincoln’s Waffle Shop.
It is right across the street from Ford’s Theater.
It is a total dive and tourist trap, but it is DELICIOUS!!!!!
I got eggs, bacon and…..

a waffle! It was just as good as The Waffle House.
I ate the whole thing and loved every single bite!

Chicken Legs got the Blueberry Pancakes.
They were DELICIOUS!!!
We LOVED Lincoln’s Waffle Shop.
So simple and so good.
There was a line out the door for breakfast.
We probably waited 15 to 20 minutes to get a seat.
The seating is family style. You sit at a table with other people.
We got two seats at one of the counters.

Elephant & Castle
After a long day of walking, we stopped in at Elephant & Castle for an afternoon pick me up.
It is a British style pub.

We ordered some Chicken Nachos.

SO good!!! They were the perfect afternoon snack.
We are planning on eating dinner here next time.
The menu had SO many yummy things.

P. J. Clarke’s
We chose P. J. Clarke’s for our last dinner in DC. We love P. J. Clarke’s!
It is a great, casual place to relax and enjoy some great food.
Chicken Legs started with some oysters. He said they were great!

For his entree, he got the steak salad.
I barely got a picture of it before he inhaled it!

I went with the Bacon Cheeseburger.
It was hands-down one of the best burgers I’ve ever eaten.
It was actually cooked to perfection.
I couldn’t resist trying the Mac & Cheese with the burger.
Ridiculously good!!!
After a nice dinner, we walked a few blocks over to The White House.
It was a perfect evening!

Founding Farmer’s
The one place that everyone kept telling us about in DC was Founding Farmers.
Everyone RAVED about it.
We decided to go for breakfast before our flight home.
We got an order of beignets. They were yummy!

I got the Stuffed French Toast.

I also ordered some of their thick cut bacon. I obviously have a different definition of thick cut bacon than they do. The bacon was just regular skinny bacon. The bacon at Lincoln’s Waffle Shop was thicker.
We both thought Founding Farmers was just OK and overpriced.
We definitely preferred Lincoln’s Waffle Shop and Astro Doughnuts over Founding Farmers.
Just our two cents.

  1. A Found Farmer's breakfast does them no justice! Those things should be purchased at a bakery or diner….seriously, go back for dinner. Pot roast, butternut squash ravioli, or risotto I can guarantee are all fantastic. 😉
