I am a huge fan of crockpot meals, especially this time of year. I don’t know about you, but I am really busy during the holiday season. The last thing I want to worry about is dinner. This recipe is super easy and tastes great. Chicken slow-cooked in chicken gravy mix, cream of chicken soup, and chicken broth. Serve the shredded chicken over rice and dinner is done. I used Uncle Ben’s Ready Rice, and dinner was ready in less than 5 minutes after walking in the door! Can’t beat that any time of year!
How To Make Chicken & Gravy in the Crockpot
This Crockpot Chicken & Gravy is SUPER easy to make. Simply place the chicken in the slow cooker, Season the chicken with salt and pepper. I sometimes use garlic salt or seasoned salt instead of plain salt. Once the chicken is seasoned on both sides, whisk together the gravy packets and soup. Pour the soup over the chicken and cook.
Once the chicken is cooked, shred it with two forks right in the slow cooker. We like to serve the chicken over white rice. Feel free to use cooked brown rice, mashed potatoes, or egg noodles. Heck, you could even serve this over some Texas toast for a chicken & gravy sandwich. If you are eating gluten-free, I think this would be great over cauliflower rice or spaghetti squash.
I used chicken gravy mix. Feel free to use any packet of gravy mix you prefer. If you want a thinner gravy, add about ½ to 1 cup of water or chicken broth to the soup mixture. Adding some water/chicken broth is a great way to stretch the gravy. The slow cooker gravy is the BEST part of the whole recipe!

Crockpot Chicken & Gravy
Equipment:
Ingredients:
- 3 to 4 boneless skinless chicken breasts
- 1 (10.5-oz) can Unsalted Cream of Chicken Soup
- 2 (0.87-oz) envelopes of chicken gravy mix
- 1/2 cup water or chicken broth, optional
- hot steamed rice
Instructions:
- Place chicken in the slow cooker and season with salt and pepper, if desired.
- Whisk together soup, gravy mix, and water (if using). Pour over chicken.
- Cover crock-pot and cook on LOW for 4-6 hours.
- Before serving break the chicken breasts into bite-sized pieces. Serve over hot steamed rice.
Notes:
- Do NOT make the gravy. You are only using the dry mix.
- Can use chicken thighs or tenderloins in place of chicken breasts.
- Can use frozen chicken breasts.
- You will need to cook on the higher end of the cooking time if using frozen chicken.
- Can add frozen vegetables to the mixture.
- I suggest using Unsalted Cream of Chicken Soup in this dish to control the sodium.

Easy and delicious! Served mine over pillsbury buttermilk biscuits. Made recipe exactly as written.
I did the same thing but doubled the gravy mix and used one can cream of chicken with herbs and one with mushrooms. Amazing!!
Stupid question…I want to make this but I don’t have gravy mix. Only have a jar of turkey gravy. You think I could substitute? Or wait and go to store.
I’ve only made this with the dry packet of mix. I can not say how it works with liquid gravy. You can certainly give it a try, but it won’t be like the recipe in the photos.
Loved it❗️Going to make again
I want to use frozen veggies (corn and peas) with this recipe. When do you add them to the crock pot?
also – thanks – Looks like a great and easy recipe
You can add them at the beginning or about 30 minutes before serving – just depends on how soft you want them.
Can I use brown gravy mix?
sure
I used half chicken gravy and half brown gravy and turned out delish!
Can this be made with just 1 chicken gravy mix? I realized after getting home that I only bought 1 pack.
I’m sure that will be fine.
This sounds so amazing. It’s in my crockpot
Now! Didn’t have chicken gravy. So trying with brown. I also added a little more than said for chicken stock. Wanted to use it up. Has anyone tried adding cream cheese to this?
Are the chicken breasts thin cut or thick?
Just regular chicken breasts not cutlets
Can you make this in the instant pot?
This was delicious. I’ve made it twice now anytime I miss comfort food here in China. It’s my substitute Thanksgiving meal since turkey is hard to find here. I will be trying more of your recipes.
Do you have to use the two packs of gravy?
Make it however you want.
I used one huge, really huge chicken breast to serve my husband and me…so I used one can of cream of mushroom soup and one pack of turkey gravy mix, four and a half hours on low. When it was done I shredded/cut up the chicken and added a bunch of frozen peas and cooked for another fifteen minutes on high. Yummy on rice!
I only have one packet of gravy mix. Will that be enough?
You can try it. I’m sure it would be fine.
I’ve made this several times now. It’s absolutely delicious, my husband and daughter love it too. Comfort food at it’s finest!
Can you use any other gravy mix like country gravy mix or sausage gravy mix?
I have only made this as written. You can certainly try it. As always, please use your best judgment regarding substitutions and modifications.
I’d bet country gravy would be great! I’m curious how it turned out if you tried it.
This was a simple recipe to follow, smelled great while it was cooking, and everyone loved it. I used homemade cream of chicken instead of store-bought canned version. So good! My husband asked me to put this recipe into regular “rotation” for our family dinners.
So glad you and your family enjoyed it!
Would be good with waffles too! I often make chicken and waffles.
