Easy French Dip Sandwiches

I have a serious weakness for a good French Dip Sandwich, and these French Dip Biscuits are no different. Warm roast beef and cheese sandwiches dunked in au jus. YUM! These warm sandwiches are great for tailgating and a quick lunch or dinner! There are only a few simple ingredients and they taste great! We ate these for lunch last week and LOVED them! We have them on the menu again this weekend for all of the NFL and college football games. Serve the biscuits with some chips or fries. Perfect!

How to Make French Dip Biscuits with Sandwich Meat

As I said, these biscuits are super easy to make. There are only 4 ingredients! Start with splitting some refrigerated biscuits. Spread the inside of the biscuits with some horseradish sauce and then stuff with deli roast beef and cheese. Pop the biscuits in the oven. While the biscuits are baking, make the au jus. That’s it!

I used sliced Boars Head London Broil for the roast beef. I get the deli to slice it very, very thin for these biscuits. If you had roast beef for the holidays, feel free to use any leftover roast in these biscuits. YUM! Leftovers never tasted so good!

I used provolone cheese in these biscuits. Feel free to swap the provolone for your favorite cheese. I like pepper jack, Monterey jack, cheddar, and white American cheese. Get creative!

What to Serve with French Dip Sandwiches

These biscuits were a HUGE hit at our house. We have made them several times and can’t seem to get enough of them! They taste great hot out of the oven or cooled to room temperature. We like to serve these biscuits with chips, fries, or pasta salad. Here are a few of our favorite recipes from the blog that go great with these easy sandwiches:

Ingredients:

  • 1 (16.3-oz) can refrigerated biscuits (8-count)
  • 1 lb thinly sliced deli roast beef
  • 2 Tbsp creamy horseradish sauce or to taste
  • 8 slices provolone cheese
  • 1 (1-oz) packet Au Jus Gravy mix

Instructions:

  • Preheat oven to 400ºF. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • Separate each biscuit into two layers. Spread each layer with horseradish sauce. Top half of the biscuit layers with provolone cheese slice and roast beef. Top meat and cheese with remaining biscuit layers and pinch edges to seal. Place on the prepared baking sheet.
  • Bake for 12 to 15 minutes, until golden brown.
  • While biscuits are baking, prepare Au Jus Gravy mix according to package directions.

Notes:

Can use your favorite cheese in place of provolone – pepper jack, cheddar, or white cheddar would all be good.
I used a can of Pillsbury Grands! Flaky Layer biscuits in this recipe.
Brush baked biscuits with melted butter and sprinkle with dried parsley, if desired.

  1. I made these today for our Christmas Day dinner as it was just the two of us. These were so good! My roast beef lunch meat was kind of on the fatty side so I decided to slow cook my lunch meat in the crockpot all day in beef broth, drained it and then assembled the sandwiches. I used horseradish sauce, luckily I found one that just gave a lot of flavor and wasn’t too hot. I have beef leftover so I’m going to make them again real soon. Neither my husband nor I are complaining about having this again! The au jus I used was amazing!

  2. These are so good! I made them for dinner one night because they were quick and easy to make. My husband loved them. I’m making them again for a Christmas Eve snack. A total hit at my house!

  3. My husband raved over these ! Instead of horseradish I used mayo and a little Dijon mustard. The McCormick brand of Aus Jus mix was delicious!

  4. I normally do French dips with roast for my son. I can’t have red meat so a lot of times some roast goes to waste when he wants French dips. These are PERFECT for when he wants them and nothing goes to waste. He loved them. Definitely a keeper!

  5. Can I prep these in advance? If I were to assemble them a couple of hours prior and then put them in the fridge…would that work? Thank you!

  6. This was great! Used leftover beef roast and mozzarella cheese. Yummy!
Will make nice little sandwiches for my husband to take to work.

  7. Just wish to confirm that the biscuits are raw when one assembles & then puts them into the oven; not bake biscuits & assemble & rebake. Thanks
