What’s in Panera Kitchen Sink Cookies?

These Kitchen Sink Cookies are loaded with semi-sweet chocolate chips, milk chocolate chips, pretzels, caramel, and flake salt. It is the perfect combination of sweet and salty.

To make the cookies, you are going to start with cold butter. Mix the butter in a stand mixer until it is soft. Add sugar, eggs, and vanilla. Once that is mixed together add the flour, salt, and baking powder. Finally, stir in the chocolate chips, caramel, and pretzels.

Divide the dough into 36 balls. Place the cookie dough balls on a parchment-lined baking sheet and refrigerate the dough for at least an hour. It is important to refrigerate the dough so the cookies don’t spread while baking in the oven.

After the cookie dough has chilled, bake the cookies. As soon as the cookies come out of the oven, sprinkle them with some flaked salt, such as Malden Sea Salt Flakes. I bought the flaked salt at Amazon. Let the cookies cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes and transfer to wire rack to cool completely.

Can Cookies Be Frozen?

YES! I suggest scooping the cookie dough into balls and freezing the cookie dough unbaked. You can store the cookie dough balls in the freezer in a freezer bag for 9 to 12 months. PERFECT for a quick treat! There is no need to thaw the cookie dough before baking. Just add a few extra minutes to the cooking time and you are good to go!

You can also freeze any leftover baked cookies in a freezer bag. That is what I did with this batch of cookies. I like to microwave the thawed cookies for a few seconds before eating. Warm chocolate chip cookies are the BEST! Amirite?

  1. What about using those little round unwrapped caramel balls that come in a package like chocolate chips…. would be nice not to have to unwrap and chop the caramels we usually use.

  2. I made these and they are delicious!!
However, the caramel pieces melted and stuck to the pan. I had a horrible time getting them off the pan. I had even greased the pan. What did I do wrong??

  3. Thought I would let you know that making batch in pan works! Amazing!!!
Pan weighs a lot as dough so heavy. 😂
Bake in 9 x 13 for about 40-45 minutes. Everyone happy as can be. Especially myself as I am totally NOT a very accomplished cook.
Thanks again. Awesome 😎 you are!

    1. Thank you for the update! Thank you for especially sharing the cooking time. I bet they were delicious!!

  4. So, the Kitchen Sink cookie at Panera has chocolate that is not a chip style. Any idea what they may use? I thought maybe chunk but it’s almost like it’s in a wafer style? Or maybe it has melted a bit? This has always made me wonder!!

  5. I don’t have a stand mixer. Will a hand mixer work well with this recipe? These look great, and I can’t wait to make them!

  6. I find it odd that this recipe doesn’t call for baking soda which is what makes the cookies spread. Has anyone had issues with the cookies spreading?

    1. The cookies don’t spread if you make them as directed in the recipe. They turned out just like the photos.

  7. For the soft caramel candies, are you talking about like the individually wrapped caramels by Kraft? Just want to let you know that I just got back from Panera and saw the kitchen sink cookies while there and decided to look for a recipe for them…then guess what was in my inbox…your recipe! Thank you for the perfect timing!

    1. Would these work as “bar” cookies using same recipe?
Also just want you to know you save me every week with your recipes. Don’t know what I would do without them. You are amazing!
