This Slow Cooker Dr Pepper Pulled Pork might be the easiest meal I’ve ever made. It is literally four ingredients – pork tenderloin, a can of Dr Pepper, chipotle peppers, and BBQ sauce. I put the pork in the crockpot on my way out of the house and when I got home from work it was ready. It literally just fell apart. Super tender and juicy and packed full of amazing flavor! This has quickly become one of our favorite ways to make pulled pork.
How to Make Dr. Pepper Pulled Pork in the Crockpot
This barbecue is effortless to make with only four simple ingredients. Place pork tenderloin in the slow cooker. Add a dollop of pureed chipotle peppers in adobo sauce. Pour a can of Dr. Pepper soda over the pork. Cover the crockpot and cook on LOW all day. Remove the pork from the slow cooker and shred it with two forks. Toss with your favorite barbecue sauce and enjoy!
Tips & Frequently Asked Questions
- When cooking pork tenderloin, it is important to remove the silver skin on the side of each pork tenderloin. The silver skin is a silvery-white sheen membrane on the pork tenderloins. It is a thick connective tissue and it doesn’t break down when the pork is cooked. I use a knife and carefully cut it off. If you don’t remove the silver skin, you will have a tough uneatable area on each tenderloin.
- You make this dish with any cut of pork – boneless pork shoulder (pork butt/Boston butt), pork loin roast, or a pork roast work great.
- Can I use a bone-in pork shoulder? Yes! If using a bone-in shoulder, you will just need to cook the pork on the higher end of the cooking time.
- Can I cook pork on HIGH in the crockpot? Yes! You can cook the pork on HIGH for about 3 to 4 hours.
- What can I add to the pork?
- chopped onion
- kosher salt and black pepper
- garlic
- cayenne pepper for an extra kick
- splash of Worcestershire sauce
- Add a dash of liquid smoke for a smoky flavor.
- You can toss the shredded pork with barbecue sauce or just spoon some of the sauce over the pork when you serve it.
- My favorite store-bought BBQ sauces are G. Hughes, Sweet Baby Rays, Stubbs, and Williamson Brothers.
- Can pulled pork be frozen? Yes! Make the pork as directed and shred. Toss the pork with sauce, if desired. Let the pork cool completely and place it in a freezer bag and freeze. When ready to serve, thaw and reheat in the microwave or on the stovetop.
- For easy cleanup, use a crockpot liner.
- Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator.
- Reheat on the stovetop or in the microwave.

We usually make pulled pork sandwiches with a bowl of coleslaw and some baked beans. This is equally delicious on top of a salad, baked potatoes, a bowl of mac and cheese, in pork tacos, or pork nachos. YUM! This is our go-to recipe for Memorial Day, the 4th of July, Labor Day, and tailgating in the Fall. Give this a try the next time you need an easy lunch or dinner option. Hi!
I love all of your recipes I’ve made so far and excited to try this one out next week for Memorial Day camping! I picked up some chipotle peppers in adobe sauce today, just wanted to clarify that I should puree them before tossing them in? I also plan on using Olipop Root Beer (they don’t make a Dr. Pepper version), but hoping it still turns out great!
I did use pureed chipotles.
Does the barbecue sauce go into the crock pot, or is it just to go on the sandwiches?
Toss the cooked pork with the sauce in the slow cooker.
Can I use Diet Dr. Pepper or Dr. Pepper Zero?
I suggest using regular Dr Pepper, but you can make it however you would like.
