Pin This RecipeSausage Balls are one of our favorite snacks. I always have a bag in the freezer for a quick snack. I had some frozen hash browns in the freezer and was thinking of ways to use them up. I wondered how they would taste in my favorite sausage ball recipe. Only one way to find out!
I whipped up a batch of sausage balls and mixed the hash browns. I waited patiently for them to bake up. I took one bite and had my answer. They are awesome! These would be great for parties or Christmas morning! Just scramble up some eggs for a super quick Christmas morning breakfast.

Nice recipe – thank you. I see no eggs in this mix. Would it help to add an egg or two? The eggs might bind the mix better and fluff it up a little.
I wouldn’t add eggs, but you can do it if you want.
If I cook these with precooked turkey sausage (we don't eat pork), would it change anything? Just thinking there will be less grease and will they still hold together? Think cooking time would change? Excited to make these today! Thanks for the recipe!
They wouldn’t be the same at all with precooked meat. There isn’t anything to bind the balls together. You could try uncooked turkey sausage in place of the pork sausage.
Thank you so much for your help!
Could I put these in a crockpot to keep them warm? I'm trying to find something to take to a Christmas party we are traveling to.
Absolutely! Enjoy!
Thank you! I just didn't want them to get soggy… or dried out!
You can put a towel on top of the slower cooker – under the lid and lock the lid. The towel will absorb any moisture
Do you have a gluten free alternative for Bisquick?
Bisquick makes a gluten-free Bisquick. Enjoy!
Can these be frozen after baked and warmed up later? I'm searching for make ahead brunch recipes.
I usually freeze them and then bake them from frozen, but I don't see why it would work the other way around. I think it would be fine to bake and then freeze.
Can these be frozen after baking and warmed up later ?
These are absolutely amazing. I got 6 dozen, so I likely made my balls smaller – but they are dang delicious. Taking to Texas A&M tailgate in the morning! I used my stand mixer & it mixed up perfectly. I wouldn’t change a single thing in the recipe. Thanks for sharing!
If I wanted to make these ahead of time and take camping how would you recommend reheating?
In the microwave or in the oven/grill covered in foil. You could also try a slow cooker.
Would you freeze these before or after you cook them?
Are these good served at room temperature like the original version?
yes – enjoy!
Sounds good. I like trying different ways to make sausage balls. One question….do you thaw out the hash browns?
I did not thaw them first. I just broke up any big clumps of hash browns.
Thank you for taking the time to give me this recipe for Bisquick mix
Thanks for the recipe, this looks like a great snack…….Just one question – What is Bisquick? I've never seen it here in Australia, so don't know what to use as an alternative. Thanks.

Are you able to fry them? If so what would you estimate the cook timento be?
Are you able to fry them? If yes, how long do you estimate the cooking time to be?
CMB8489 – I've never fried sausage balls, so I don't know how that would work or what any cooking time would be.
If I used frozen sausage at the start, I let the sausage thaw out then made the mixture and then into balls. Can I freeze them again?
I would think that you could if you freeze them immediately after rolling into balls.
Sounds fantastic! Addictive too, I bet, just pop "one more" about 30 times, right?
I am so intrigued by this. I just need to try them! I have never had sausage balls so this is totally new to me.
I wonder if you could use Chorizo? Then put them in a tortilla. Quick breakfast burritos 🙂
They look sooo good.
