Pin This RecipeSausage Balls are one of our favorite snacks. I always have a bag in the freezer for a quick snack. I had some frozen hash browns in the freezer and was thinking of ways to use them up. I wondered how they would taste in my favorite sausage ball recipe. Only one way to find out!
I whipped up a batch of sausage balls and mixed the hash browns. I waited patiently for them to bake up. I took one bite and had my answer. They are awesome! These would be great for parties or Christmas morning! Just scramble up some eggs for a super quick Christmas morning breakfast.

Can you substitute cheddar bay biscuit mix for the bisquick
yes
Made these 2day 4 a Brunch and a huge success. I used turkey sausage vs hot sausage and my kids kept coming back 4 more.
Tks a lot!!!
Where do you find shredded frozen hash brown?
freezer section with the frozen potatoes/fries
I’ve used both freshly shredded potatoes and the refrigerated Simply Potatoes with great success. Usually add slice green onions and a can a chopped green chilies. Never any left.
Would like to make them for a party. Can I bake them& then keep them warm in a crockpot?
sure!
What is the change without Bisquick?? I really want to make these for a Dad and 3 kids who just (today) lost their Mom. Hope you can get back to me FAST!
Thanks!
You have to use the Bisquick – there is no change without Bisquick.
Has anyone tried using the Krusteaz brand of baking mix in place of the Bisquick? (I have a huge bag of the Krusteaze that I would like to find uses for…)
I use refrigerated hash browns, add sliced green onions and can of green chilies.
I am intrigued by adding hash browns! I definitely want to try this, but we don’t do cream cheese in my house. Any suggestions?
Just made this after my mom had made these a couple weeks ago. We mad them bigger and got aobut 25 balls out of it. Really good and cooked up just fine. Gave me a reason to finally use my Kitchen Aid stand mixer with dough hook. I was surprised at how cold the mixture got, thanks frozen hashies and I’m glad it turns out so good, the dough is so sticky and gross when working with it. Super delicious though and can’t wait to eat these again for a few days for breakfast. Next time I plan to put some sofrito into the mix to give it an extra hint of seasoning. We also used mild sausage because I just don’t do hot well. Thanks for this.
I have already cooked crumbled hot sausage in my fridge. Can I use that instead of uncooked sausage?
This recipe uses uncooked sausage.
Do you thaw the hash browns before mixing?
I did not that them before mixing.
Very Delicious!!!
Made for breakfast and we enjoyed them!
Very easy to mix and make!
These are easy & fantastic! I would not change a single thing. They are just as good at room temperature, so if you need to carry these somewhere, there is no worry about keeping them warm. Thank you for sharing another fabulous recipe!
Absolutely…It’s like people have absolutely no idea what they’re doing. Take a chance! It’s just food! Put a little thought into it.
Can the shredded hash browns be refrigerated?
Yes

If I do this….Can I do this??????….Don’t you think it would be better with…….I wonder if I could blah blah blah……Plain Chicken….I don’t know how you don’t lose your mind! People, for goodness sake, If you want the recipe….try it! If you want to try it another way….go for it but how is plain chicken supposed to know if it will work this way or that????? Why can’t people just accept the recipe as is….????
Thank you! Either follow the recipe or don’t, and if you make it your own don’t comment because you didn’t follow the recipe!!
Thank you for this recipe. I love the addition of the hash browns. Like another post, I don’t make sausage balls very often because of the effort it takes to mix everything together. Never thought to use my stand mixer! And thank you for noting they can be frozen and then baked frozen. We have a staff breakfast next week but I am going to make them Saturday and bake them before I leave for work on the day of the breakfast. What a time saver!
