How to Make The BEST Guacamole Recipe

As I said, this dip is very easy to make with a few simple ingredients. Slice ripe avocados in half and remove the pit. Scoop the avocado flesh from the peel and place it in a large bowl. Mash the ripe avocados with a potato masher, leaving it slightly chunky. Squeeze fresh lime juice over the avocado. Fold in chopped white onions, chopped jalapeno pepper, diced tomatoes, cilantro, garlic, cumin, kosher salt, and black pepper. That’s it!

Tips & Frequently Asked Questions

  • I used regular-sized avocados, not large/jumbo avocados.
  • How do I ripen avocados? To speed up the avocado ripening process, place unripe avocados in a brown paper bag with an apple or banana for two to three days until they are ripe.
    • The closed brown paper bag traps the ethylene gas inside to speed up the ripening time
  • What is the best way to keep guacamole green? To keep the guacamole from turning brown, press a piece of plastic wrap directly onto the top of the guacamole, pressing it down onto the surface of the guacamole. You want to eliminate any air bubbles.
    • Another popular storage method is placing the guacamole in the bottom of an air-tight container and covering it with lukewarm water before sealing the container. When ready to serve the dip, pour off the water and stir.
  • Store dip in an airtight container in the refrigerator.
  • How long does guacamole last? Homemade guacamole usually lasts 1 to 2 days.
  • Can use white onion, yellow onion, or red onion.
  • For spicy guacamole, leave the seeds and membranes on the chopped jalapeños or add a little bit of hot sauce
    • Sometimes I substitute a can of drained Rotel diced tomatoes and green chiles for the diced tomatoes in the dip.
  • Don’t like cilantro? Feel free to leave it out of the recipe. I know cilantro tastes like soap to some people.
