What does CRACK mean?

If a recipe has “crack” in the title it means that the recipe has cheddar, bacon, and ranch in the ingredients. It all started with my Crack Dip way back in 2007. I made the dip for a Titans football game. Everyone went crazy over it. We couldn’t stop eating it and said it was like crack. The name stuck.

According to the dictionary, the definition of crack is “of superior excellence or ability”. We think the flavor combination of cheddar, bacon, and ranch fits this definition! This recipe is most definitely of superior excellence!

  1. I make a very similar recipe that calls for cream of chicken soup, blue cheese dressing and straight up Frank's Red Hot sauce. I top it with french fried onions. It's fantastic!!

  2. I just made this and it was delicious. I couldn't find the dip soi made my own with wing sauce and sour cream. I also left a portion without the wing sauce for my little ones and they loved it too. This is a keeper!

  3. I can't find the dip anywhere near me 🙁 I even got on their website and did a 40 mile radius search, and nothin! Wonder if I could make my own dip, or could you suggest a replacement ingredient??

    1. You can use 24 oz of sour cream and add buffalo wing sauce to taste. I would start with a 1/4 cup and add more after you taste it.

  4. I plan on halving this recipe because it's just the two of us… Do you think 2 chicken breasts chopped up should be enough? It might sound dumb, but I get confused with cups and breasts 🙂

  5. Substitute crushed cheezits instead of fritos and this wud be awesome! To make own buffalo dip mix cream cheese(neufchatel), blu cheese dressing and Franks hot sauce! (can subst ranch if u don't like blu cheese)

  6. Made this today for dinner and my youngest says that it was the "most excellent dinner I have ever made" Such a quick easy recipe! Thanks!

  7. Trish – I think that would work fine. You could also use sour cream and add wing sauce to it. Enjoy!

  8. I couldn't find the buffalo kind, so I bought the cheddar jalapeño one. Do you think that would work and also add a little wing sauce?

  9. leahtbug – I found it near the sour cream. I used Heluva Good brand – it is pretty common. If you can't find it, use sour cream and add about 2 Tbsp wing sauce to it (or to your heat liking).

    Enjoy!

  10. Where do you find buffalo dip? Is it something I can make? I have never seen it for sale in my town.
