Chuy’s just opened up here in The ‘Ham.  Chuy’s, for those of you that don’t know, is an eclectic Tex-Mex chain out of Texas.  They recently started expanding outside of Texas and Birmingham was lucky enough to get one of the first non-Texas locations!  Chuy’s is located at The Summit.  It has the BEST view of any restaurant in town.  It overlooks 280, and the outdoor deck/seating will be amazing when it finally cools off.

We finally made it to dinner at Chuy’s a couple of weeks ago (the wait has been horrendous). We both really enjoyed the food, but we both loved the jalapeno dip they serve with the chips and salsa.  It was crazy good!

I immediately went on the hunt for the recipe.  I found a few copycat recipes and settled on one from The Tasty Kitchen.  Jackpot!  It tasted exactly like the jalapeno dip at Chuy’s!  We couldn’t stop eating the stuff.  I decided to marinate some chicken in it and it was awesome!  I also made a little cheesy jalapeno bread.  YUM!  Jalapeno Dip overload!!

  1. We live right down the road from Chuy’s and have always loved them, plus we’re originally from Texas, so Tex-mex is a big deal in my house! I did a taco night and at the last minute thought “we’ve always loved the jalapeno ranch dip from Chuy’s, I wonder if there’s a copycat recipe” and this one fits perfectly. Actually, my family said they liked it even better than the original! I used some well-stirred greek yogurt instead of sour cream because it’s what we had in the house (and we like the added protein and lower fat) and it was great; I also didn’t add the milk at the end, just because I like a chunkier dip consistency, and it was all the better because we could scoop more with a chip at a time. It paired really well with fish and shrimp tacos and an avocado-crabmeat quesadilla recipe I made that night as well. We put the remaining in a jar and have been using it for other things since then also. Definitely will make again.

  2. I have missed this SO MUCH since moving back to the East Coast. I made it to top some Slaw/Shrimp tacos and maaaaybe there might be some left for them. My husband is even impressed I was able to recreate it. I didn’t tell him how easy it was thank you so much for this recipe!!

  3. I love Chuys dip here in San Antonio there are many locations. The food there is ok not really Tex Mex. If you ever visit here there is way better Tex Mex places then Chuys.

  4. Thank you for this recipe. We make this all the time in our family. My husband is from Austin, TX, and this reminds him of home. So good!!
