What does CRACK mean?
If a recipe has “crack” in the title it means that the recipe has cheddar, bacon, and ranch in the ingredients. It all started with my Crack Dip way back in 2007. I made the dip for a Titans football game. Everyone went crazy over it. We couldn’t stop eating it and said it was like crack. The name stuck.
According to the dictionary, the definition of crack is “of superior excellence or ability”. We think the flavor combination of cheddar, bacon, and ranch fits this definition! This recipe is most definitely of superior excellence!
How to Make Cracked Out Butter Swim Biscuits
These homemade buttermilk biscuits are incredibly easy to make with only a few simple ingredients. There is no yeast and no kneading involved! Start with melting some butter in an 8-inch baking dish or microwave-safe bowl. Mix flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, Ranch dressing mix, bacon, and shredded cheddar cheese in a medium bowl. Pour in buttermilk into the dry ingredients and stir until a loose dough forms. Press the biscuit dough in the pan over the melted butter with a spatula or your hands. Using a sharp knife, cut the biscuit dough into 12 squares and bake until golden brown.

Cracked Out Butter Swim Biscuits
Ingredients:
- ¼ cup unsalted butter
- 1¼ cup all-purpose flour
- 1 Tbsp dry Ranch Dressing mix
- 2 tsp baking powder
- ½ tsp salt
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- ⅓ cup cooked chopped bacon
- ⅔ to 1 cup buttermilk or milk
Instructions:
- Heat the oven to 450°F. Cut the butter into pieces and place them in an 8-inch square microwave-safe baking dish. Put the dish in the microwave and melt the butter.
- While the butter is melting, whisk the flour, baking powder, salt, and ranch dressing mix together in a large mixing bowl. Add cheese and bacon. Stir in 2/3 cup buttermilk; continue to add more buttermilk until a loose dough forms. (I used about 2-3 Tbsp more than the 2/3 cup)
- Remove baking dish from the microwave and press biscuit dough in the pan over the melted butter (It helps to put a little flour on top of the dough or your fingers). Using a knife, cut the biscuits into 12 or 16 squares.
- Bake for 17-20 minutes until golden.
Notes:
- Can use precooked bacon or freshly cooked bacon. If using fresh bacon, you will need about ⅓ of a pound of bacon.
- Can substitute turkey bacon for lower calories.
