I am a huge fan of crockpot meals, especially this time of year. I don’t know about you, but I am really busy during the holiday season. The last thing I want to worry about is dinner. This recipe is super easy and tastes great. Chicken slow-cooked in chicken gravy mix, cream of chicken soup, and chicken broth. Serve the shredded chicken over rice and dinner is done. I used Uncle Ben’s Ready Rice, and dinner was ready in less than 5 minutes after walking in the door! Can’t beat that any time of year!
How To Make Chicken & Gravy in the Crockpot
This Crockpot Chicken & Gravy is SUPER easy to make. Simply place the chicken in the slow cooker, Season the chicken with salt and pepper. I sometimes use garlic salt or seasoned salt instead of plain salt. Once the chicken is seasoned on both sides, whisk together the gravy packets and soup. Pour the soup over the chicken and cook.
Once the chicken is cooked, shred it with two forks right in the slow cooker. We like to serve the chicken over white rice. Feel free to use cooked brown rice, mashed potatoes, or egg noodles. Heck, you could even serve this over some Texas toast for a chicken & gravy sandwich. If you are eating gluten-free, I think this would be great over cauliflower rice or spaghetti squash.
I used chicken gravy mix. Feel free to use any packet of gravy mix you prefer. If you want a thinner gravy, add about ½ to 1 cup of water or chicken broth to the soup mixture. Adding some water/chicken broth is a great way to stretch the gravy. The slow cooker gravy is the BEST part of the whole recipe!

Crockpot Chicken & Gravy
Equipment:
Ingredients:
- 3 to 4 boneless skinless chicken breasts
- 1 (10.5-oz) can Unsalted Cream of Chicken Soup
- 2 (0.87-oz) envelopes of chicken gravy mix
- 1/2 cup water or chicken broth, optional
- hot steamed rice
Instructions:
- Place chicken in the slow cooker and season with salt and pepper, if desired.
- Whisk together soup, gravy mix, and water (if using). Pour over chicken.
- Cover crock-pot and cook on LOW for 4-6 hours.
- Before serving break the chicken breasts into bite-sized pieces. Serve over hot steamed rice.
Notes:
- Do NOT make the gravy. You are only using the dry mix.
- Can use chicken thighs or tenderloins in place of chicken breasts.
- Can use frozen chicken breasts.
- You will need to cook on the higher end of the cooking time if using frozen chicken.
- Can add frozen vegetables to the mixture.
- I suggest using Unsalted Cream of Chicken Soup in this dish to control the sodium.

Making this tonight! I've made several of your recipes and all were hits!
I'm also a new follower!
Blessings,

This recipe looks GREAT, I am planning on making it for dinner tomorrow. Just one question, (might be a dumb one) but the gravy packet says to mix the contents with water, did you do that, or just dump the powder in with the chicken & soup?
Just dump the packet it with the chicken and soup
well i may have put in too much water lol
I made this recipe for dinner last night and it was soooo good. We gobbled it right up. Thank you!!
Hi do u guys cut the fat off of the chicken breasts?
My experience is it just kind of dissolves but it wouldn’t hurt anything if you wanted to cut it off.
If using, when do you add the frozen vegetables?
It just depends on how soft you want the veggies. The longer you cook them, the softer they will be.
I add my frozen veggies the last hours, turns out perfect
With a knife
No! Leave it on you cant tell if anything it adds flavor
Simple, easy and delicious. This was a big hit with my fiancé and he is a picky eater! I use one pack of HEB gravy and one pack of pioneer chickens and herbs gravy and cook for 6 hrs for maximum tenderness. Omg yum!!!
Made this the other day, used healthy request soup and one regular and one reduced sodium gravy packet. I thought it was so-so right out of the crockpot but the leftovers were *amazing* a day and a half later. If you have time, make it ahead, especially if making it with less salt. Recipe will definitely be in my regular rotation! I was totally happy eating the chicken and gravy with just broccoli on the side, without rice or potatoes. Leftover chicken, if you’re lucky enough to have some, would definitely be great for chicken salad if you rinse off the gravy.
If you want to feed 6-8 people do you just double everything? This looks so good and sounds so simple that it kind of scares me!!
Yes, I would double it for 6-8 people. Simple food is often the best food!
This recipe is simple to follow and absolutely delicious. I make mashed potatoes and veggies on the side and even the kids can’t get enough. Kid approved. Mom approved!
Me too grandkids love it with mashed potatoes and string beans on side. Mima approved kids approved. 👍🏻
Question can I use cream of mushroom instead of cream of chicken?
yes – any condensed cream soup will work just fine.
Can this be cooked in oven?
I’ve never made this in the oven, so I can not say how it turns out. I am sure you could, but I do not have a time or temperature for you.
If you double the recipe including the amount of chicken would you still cook it on low for 4 to 6 hours?
I would think so.
Yes, anytime I cook chicken in the crockpot (Which is a lot!) I cook the chicken the same amount of time, does not matter the amount of chicken I am cooking. The only time that it would matter obviously is if the chicken didn’t all fit in the crockpot comfortably…..
hey just wondering if i dont have rice could I do mash potatoes instead
Sure!
Can you use onions in the mix too?
sure – you can add whatever you want.
Can I add in frozen vegetables!?
Keep in mind there is moisture that will come out of frozen veggies. May thin gravy. I personally would cook first then drain liquid before adding.
I just tried this recipe for dinner and it was both delicious and simple!! My favorite kind of recipe. I have tried a number of your recipes and I'm never disappointed! I enjoy following your blog and look forward to new recipes everyday.
So I am in the process of cooking this. I only had 1 pack of chick gravy on hand so I substituted a Turk gravy pack. I Plan on adding frozen pees & carrots at the end then serving over white rice. I’m anticipating good results! lol Thank you for the share! I will update 😉
I made this and served with garlic mashed potatoes. Just delicious!!! Thank you.
I followed the recipe to a T the first time. Although it was good, I felt it needed a little more flavor. The next time I tried this with one packet of chicken gravy and one packet of Turkey gravy. I also added about a half a packet of dry ranch dip, a little tarragon, uncle Chris’s seasoning and a can of veggies. Then served over orzo pasta! Delish!
Thanks.
Kerry – I did mix the cooked rice in with the sauce after the chicken cooked, but you can just serve the chicken and gravy over the rice if you prefer.
Just setting things up so any answer gets emailed to me. Sorry for the double comment.
I used Turkey gravy mix too. How did yours turn out mine is cooking still
It will be just fine
Just found this recipe, which looks lovely.
Kind of a dumb question, but is the rice going into the crockpot or are you serving the contents of the crock pot on a bed of rice.
The picture looks like the rice is mixed in the sauce, so I wasn't sure.
muststartover – you could use frozen chicken. Just cook it a little longer – 7-8 hours. Perfect for a work day.
Can you use frozen chicken or should it be thawed?
So I need to make the soup (like with a can of water) or just leave it concentrated?
do not make the soup
Sounds, simple and quite good!
This looks so good! And I am always looking for crock pot recipes – thanks!!
Shannon – I used boneless skinless chicken breasts. Do not cook them before you put them in the crockpot. The crock pot will cook them for you. This made enough for 2-3 people – just depends on how big the chicken breast are.
This looks delicious! These may be silly questions, but I'll ask anyway 🙂
Do you cook the chicken breasts first? I assume these are boneless, skinless chicken breasts.
Also, how many servings is this good for? thanks! 🙂
I love crockpot meals too and need to use it more. This looks great Stephanie.
