Sausage Gravy Breakfast Bake

YUM!  This was so delicious!  Sausage, cheese and gravy all in one dish - what's not to like??  This recipe is a little different from usual breakfast casseroles where the bread is baked in the casserole.  In this recipe, the bread is cubed and baked on top of the casserole.

This is one of our new favorite breakfast casseroles.  It was so easy to make.  It can be made ahead and refrigerated until you are ready to bake it.  The casserole has great flavor with the addition of the sausage gravy, and we both really loved the crispy bread on top.  I topped the casserole with some extra sausage gravy because we love sausage gravy!

Sausage Gravy Breakfast Bake
slightly adapted from McCormick
8 servings
(Printable Recipe)

1 lb sausage
2 cups shredded Cheddar cheese
6 eggs, beaten
1 cup water
1/2 cup milk
2 packages McCormick Sausage Flavor Country Gravy Mix
6 slices bread, cut into 1-inch cubes
2 tablespoons melted butter

Preheat oven to 325°F.

Cook sausage in large skillet on medium heat until brown. Drain sausage. Spread in lightly greased 11x7-inch baking dish. Sprinkle cheese over sausage.

Beat eggs, water, milk and 1 packet gravy mix in medium bowl with wire whisk until well blended. Pour over cheese. Arrange bread cubes evenly over mixture. Drizzle butter over bread.

Bake, uncovered, 40 minutes or until knife inserted in center comes out clean. Let stand 10 minutes before serving.

Prepare additional package of McCormick Sausage Country Gravy Mix as directed on package. Serve with casserole.

  3. Sorry, this is probably a dumb question, but if I want to make this the night before, what step do I stop at? Will the bread get soggy if I make the whole thing and stick it in the fridge? Thanks for your help!

  5. I made this for dinner & it was very tasty. I left the sausage gravy on the side for self-serve, and put maple syrup on my teenage Son's serving instead. It tasted like a Mc Donalds McGriddle & he absolutely loved it! Thanks!
