I am in love with this easy pasta dish! Smoked sausage and pasta tossed in an easy beer cheese sauce - what's not to love?!?! PLUS it only takes about 15 minutes from start to finish. SO quick and easy!!
I used smoked turkey sausage in this recipe. I think it tastes great, and it saves some calories. I need all the calorie savings after the holidays! Who's with me?!?!
Like I said, this takes about 15 minutes to make. Basically as long as it takes to boil the pasta. I started the pasta, browned the sausage and then whipped up the beer cheese sauce. This is best served immediately. If it sits for a while and gets too thick, just add some milk and it will be as good as new.
Beer Cheese and Sausage Pasta
- 8 oz dried pasta - penne, elbows or campanelle
- 1 (14-oz) package smoked turkey sausage, sliced
- 1 Tbsp olive oil
- 1 cup beer
- 3 Tbsp flour
- 2 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1/2 tsp dry mustard
- 1/2 tsp paprika
- salt and pepper to taste
Cook pasta according to package directions. Drain and set aside.
In a large skillet, cook smoked sausage in olive oil until browned, about 5 minutes. Remove from heat.
In a medium saucepan, heat beer over medium-high heat until it bubbles. Stir in flour and cheese. Whisk until cheese has melted and is smooth. Whisk in Worcestershire, dry mustard, paprika, salt and pepper. Remove from heat.
Toss cooked sausage and pasta in beer cheese sauce. Serve immediately.
(To thicken the sauce, add a flour a little bit at a time. For a thinner sauce, add small amounts of beer until it reaches the desired consistency.)
